The Akantor are a species that are from the science fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter Freedom 2. They are a species of Flying Wyvern that, like their cousin Ukanlos, have grown so large they no longer possess wings in any form. Akantor are known to wander out from their volcanic homes and cause destruction wherever they go, causing some to dub it the Infernal Black God.
Physiology[]
The Akantor is a massive, quadrupedal wyvern with a build roughly resembling a snapping turtle's. It is covered in reddish-black scutes with rows of tall spines on its back, and its tail is equipped with three claw-like spines. The Akantor also bears massive tusks protruding from its lower jaw. Its belly is covered in cream coloured scales that occasionally form small knobs.
Abilities[]
Because Akantors are so strong, the habitat in which they live may suffer greatly by their presence. Only the biggest wyverns and Elder Dragons dare face Akantors, as both predators and prey run from them. Akantors are incredibly lethal opponents because to their gigantic tusks, several body spines, great physical strength, and loud roars. If all of that wasn't enough, a very corrosive fluid that is supposed to weaken prey's defenses is created inside the mouth of Akantor, and with its incredibly loud roars, the creature can form a type of "sonic beam" that is contaminated with the Dragon Element and strong enough to bring down passing airships. Despite its associations with fire, Akantor can't manipulate it itself, instead spreading lava about the battlefield to scorch opponents as it digs.
Behavior[]
Akantors are revealed to be more than capable of bringing down a Gravios due to their extreme aggression and predatory nature. They can destroy numerous creatures and hunters who dare fight them, making them the undisputed top predator in any environment unfortunate enough to see their presence. An older dragon or a skilled group of hunters are the only things that can possibly halt an Akantor due to its great strength and capacity to dig through magma. They frequently give out a loud scream before charging head-on, attacking and killing nearly anything they come across.
Habitat[]
While Akantor may be discovered in the Battleground, it can also be found in the Lava Canyon and the Ingle Isle in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
