The Amatsu are an Elder Dragon species that appears in the science fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter Portable 3.
Physiology[]
Amatsu's body is unlike any other; it resembles a leviathan's. Despite having a tiny head, it is equipped with enormous golden horns that are bordered by flesh tendrils. Amatsu has a mostly light white body that is completely covered with fins that run the length of each of her four limbs. Its underbelly is gray and scaled, and additional pointed fins sprout from its back.
Amatsu's short, virtually useless hind legs and almost-vestigial feet are a result of its constant aerial flight. There are more white fins surrounding the front legs.
Its wing membranes display more noticeable red veins when it is angry, and its eyes, horns, and chest glow a faint golden color when it is about to die.
Abilities[]
Because of its special powers, Amatsu is able to freely manipulate wind and storms, changing the surrounding weather. Amatsu has the ability to swim freely in the sky with its fins, create powerful tornadoes and gales, shield itself from the wind with a wind barrier, and unleash massive storms that can travel great distances. It can also shoot pressurized water blasts powerful enough to shatter clouds and split stone because of the vast volumes of water it has inside its body. Amatsu's skills are significantly stronger than those of Kushala Daora, another Elder Dragon that can control the wind. In fact, they seem to get stronger the more hurt or handicapped Amatsu gets, and they even seem to get stronger as it grows angry. It could eventually start using the storm's lightning to strike enemies as well.
Amatsu's very existence is a terrible thing that may destroy entire regions and force other monsters to abandon their homes. Many people dread it as a severe threat because of its destructive potential, which is thought to be stronger than that of natural disasters and capable of destroying whole cities.
Behavior[]
Amatsu is known to utilize its catastrophic storms to wipe out any rivals in a large region when claiming territory, and it may even descend to devastate human civilizations in its realm. Amatsu is said to be highly territorial and will attack any invaders on sight, especially flying monsters or human airships. While it often remains at high altitudes, when facing direct dangers, it will descend to lower elevations.
Habitat[]
It is said to only exist in the Sacred Pinnacle and the environs of Yukumo Village, where it is also encountered in combat. It is hard to follow its movements because it patrols high in the skies for the most of the time. It has also been said to have been sighted in Tsukito City in the past, as well as at the Infernal Springs in the Kamura Region.
