Andrew Neyman, often mispronounced as Neiman, is the main protagonist of the 2014 psychological drama film Whiplash and the 2013 short film of the same name.
Andrew is a young and determined musician whose dream is to become one of the greatest musicians to have ever lived. However, this dream would be put to the test when he was chosen to advance to a more prestigious conservatory ran by Terence Fletcher. Andrew is soon put to the test in terms of his drumming career while dealing with his ruthless instructor in hopes of becoming one of the greatest.
He was played by Miles Teller.
Personality[]
Andre starts off as ordinary determined kid who wants to do the best he can, but he begins to change after being belittled by Fletcher for minor mistakes and grows more obsessed with succeeded, he devotes most his life to music and slowly begins to alienates himself from his friends and family, he starts drumming so hard that he begins to start making himself bleed from going to hard. He starts taking some of Terence Fletcher’s traits, such as his perfectionism (as proven when he destroys his own drums because a minor mistake) and his hatred of others. He cuts all ties with his friend Rachael and endangers himself.
by the end of the film, Neyman becomes completely and utterly obsessed with his music career and becomes just like Terence’s former student Sean.
Biography[]
Andrew is a student at the prestigious institution Shaffer Conservatory in New York, where he is studying to be a jazz drummer. As a first-year jazz student, he is particularly focused on becoming the best jazz drummer in the world and has even moved his dorm room mattress to the school's practice room to be able to practice at all hours of the day. His goal is to be accepted into the school's competitive studio band, which is led by the renowned musician and conductor Terence Fletcher.
Andrew's main challenge is trying to impress Fletcher, who is known for being tough on his students and using harsh methods to push them to succeed.
Trivia[]
- According to IMDB, J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller filmed several takes for the slapping scene with Simmons' character only miming a slap. It is only in the final take when Simmons decided to film the scene with a real, genuine slap to Teller.
- He used to have a page on the Heroes Wiki, until it was deleted because he is just the protagonist of the film and doesn't actually do anything heroic.
