Apollo Gourd is the main antagonist from the VeggieTales episode, Sumo of the Opera.

He is played by Apollo Gourd.

Biography[]

Scooter Carrot is battling Apollo Gourd and tries to push back, but it doesn't work. Apollo then executes his signature move, the Belly Ringer, a style of wrestling in which he leaps into the air, lands in front of his opponent, and then gives the opponent a belly bump, which sends the opponent flying out of the ring. That is exactly what Apollo Gourd does to Scooter, causing him to be knocked out of the ring. Following the incident, Apollo laughs triumphantly. Approached by his cameraman (Jerry Gourd), Apollo Gourd is approached by sportscaster Jim Gourdly (Jimmy Gourd), who informs him about the championship match to commemorate the Year of the Scallion and asks him for his thoughts on Po-Ta-To, his opponent. In response, Apollo says he has a haiku for Po-Ta-To that goes, "There's no way Po-Ta-To will linger in the match after I give him a belly ringer."

The Italian Scallion then claims that if he wins that bike, he won't have to complete mending Hadrian's cycle, while Apollo declares that he wants the championship and doesn't care about the reward. After that, the Italian Scallion says he'll take it, but before he can clarify that he was referring to the bike, the French Peas assume that Scallion was making a joke out of having to fight Apollo. Jim points out that Apollo was only wrong by two syllables as Apollo proceeds to recite another haiku, "In the Year of the Scallion, how about a-bout with the Italian Scallion?" After stating that Apollo is well ahead of Scallion, Mikey replies that he stumbled on a banana peel. Scallion then argues that he knocked Po-Ta-To out of the ring. After claiming that it was his responsibility and that he owed Po, Scallion instructs Mikey to inform Po that he is replacing him. After that, Jim tells Scallion he's a hoot, and the French Peas begin to chuckle at the idea of the Italian Scallion taking on Apollo Gourd. Then, Scallion declares that he accepts the challenge and that he would actually wrestle Apollo.

Before the wrestler singers arrive and begin singing about how Apollo won't be training for the match, Apollo asks the French Peas if everything is set up for his victory party. To which they reply that it is. Apollo then asks them if he will train for the match, to which they reply that Scallion is a pushover and that he could beat him in his sleep.

After finishing his preparation, Scallion declares with confidence that "it's time." Soon, Apollo Gourd and the Italian Scallion will square off in a wrestling bout, with Jim Gourd serving as the contest's master of ceremonies. Before the bout even starts, Scallion says, "Go for it," to Apollo's declaration that he will bounce him out. Apollo then pushes Scallion out of the ring before using his Belly Ringer technique. Apollo is stunned by the realization that his technique has failed when he attempts it on Scallion, but it is ineffective.

Scallion gives the Tiger Bike a quick glance once Apollo snaps out of it, then gives Apollo a shaky belly bump in return. Now that Apollo is agitated, Scallion may employ the techniques Mikey taught him, like wiping the floor and riding the escalator, while pushing Apollo in the direction of the ring's edge. Jim finds it unbelievable that Apollo gets back up and engages in combat with Scallion once more. The two of them fall out of the ring before they touch the earth as a consequence of Apollo pushing Scallion in the direction of the ring's edge. Jim declares that the competition is ended and that Apollo is still the winner. However, he soon discovers that no one has ever held an advantage against Apollo Gourd for longer than eight seconds.
