| ~ Azrael after jokingly suggesting to Carrie that they get a soda, even though ghosts can't drink. |
Azrael is a minor character in the animated series The Amazing World of Gumball.
He is a ghost and the ex-boyfriend of fellow ghost Carrie Krueger, making his only appearance in "The Drama."
He was voiced by Alex Jordan.
Why Isn't He Heroic or Villainous?[]
- All he does throughout the episode is be nice to his ex-girlfriend and Darwin, meaning he is a bog-standard "nice guy" and not a hero.
- Gumball's suspicion that he might be trying to win Carrie back as his partner is revealed to be a falsehood, and even if it wasn't, it would not be unethical enough to be villainous.
Background[]
He is first mentioned by Carrie when she is speaking to her current boyfriend, Darwin Watterson, on a park bench. She shows him a picture and claims that they dated for one to two decades, but that she has since moved on. Carrie later bumps into Azrael at the arcade during a date with Darwin. They start cracking jokes, and Carrie says they should hang out and catch up. He agrees and says goodbye to both her and Darwin.
Later, Gumball Watterson (concerned about his brother Darwin and Carrie's relationship) takes Darwin to find Carrie and Azrael. They find them at the cemetery beside the grave of Carrie's mother, where Carrie and Azrael discuss meeting up in the next two centuries. Gumball fails to kick Azrael due to the latter's intangibility; the former later apologizes to Carrie and Darwin, and they straighten everything out.
Appearance[]
Azrael is a slender, humanoid ghost with a long, pointed, beak-like face and simple, stylized facial features, including two dark, elongated oval eyes and a wide smile. He wears a loose-fitting, gray, colorless hoodie featuring a minimalist graphic of a rising/setting sun over stylized waves and two white drawstrings. He also wears grey fitted pants and simple sneakers with white toe caps and soles. His entire design, including clothes, is translucent, and he is also outlined with subtle red and blue offsets, creating a 3D effect.
Personality[]
Despite Gumball's initial suspicion that Azrael was trying to date Carrie again, Azrael is revealed to be a laid-back and friendly guy who keeps a cool head and is primarily calm and relaxed. He maintains a platonic relationship with Carrie and is neither affected by nor jealous of her current relationship with Darwin. He enjoys talking, reminiscing, making jokes about his undead status, and simply hanging out.
