Black Diablos are a subspecies of Diablos that were first seen in Monster Hunter G. Contrary to their classification, they are females of the Diablos species in heat or bearing eggs, causing their hide to turn black and their behaviour to turn more aggressive. As they possess strengths comparable to Elder Dragons, elite hunters must be called in to slay them if they ever wander near to civilisation.
Physiology[]
As her name suggests, the Black Diablos is a female Diablos whose shell has turned completely black as a result of the hormones induced during the breeding season. Her horns are now rather silvery-grey as compared to a regular Diablos's khaki horns.
Abilities[]
As Diablos, Black Diablos are all immensely powerful Flying Wyverns adapted for burrowing in the desert. They are capable of not only mowing down opponents with their powerful charges, but also bursting from the sand with incredibly high leaps to ambush foes. Their massive horns and tail club are perfect for goring and pulverising foes respectively, while they maintain their impressive vocal capacity that lets them unleash blood-curdling roars, paralysing foes in shock. These traits, however, are all enhanced in the Black Diablos by her breeding season hormones, causing her to be so powerful even Deviljho dare not to attack her. Said hormones also turn the Black Diablos's shell black, though it still maintains the rock-hard durability it had beforehand.
Habitat[]
Usually found in desert environments. Although Black Diablos thrive in arid environments, her capacity to burrow in sand might restrict her to desert regions. She can be spotted at the Deserted Island in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, though, when the Sandy Plains are experiencing severe heat and drought.
Trivia[]
- Despite being labelled as subspecies, it is more like a variant since its appearance is not genetic adaptation, but it was a normal female Diablos that later turned black when pregnant or just laid eggs.
