~ Caillou's theme song.

Caillou is the main titular protagonist of the franchise of the same name, appearing as the titular character of the books and television series. He is a wildly imaginative 4-year-old boy who likes to learn new things each day. He is the son of Boris and Doris and the older brother of Rosie.

Caillou was voiced by Bryn McAuley from 1997 to 2000, then the late Jaclyn Linetsky from 2000 until she died in 2003, and then Annie Bovaird from the same year afterward until the original series' ending. In the 2016 reboot, Caillou's New Adventures, he is voiced by Laurie Hymes. In the CGI reboot (2023), he is voiced by Logan Nicholson.

Why isn't he heroic or villainous?[]

  • Most, if not all of his good actions just amount to him being nice and that's it.
  • He doesn't do anything villainous as they only amount to him being a generic bully, shoplifter, jerk, and spoiled brat.

Appearance[]

Caillou is a bald 4-year-old boy with no hair and wears a yellow (formerly gray) button-down shirt and colorful shoes.

Description[]

Caillou is a wildly imaginative 4-year-old boy who likes to learn new things each day. While he is sometimes mean to his younger sister Rosie, they always manage to get along with each other by the end. When Rosie was born, he was only 2 1/2 years old, and immediately showed jealously towards Rosie upon her being born. He even displays some sociopathic traits such as Lack of Empathy, as shown where he pinches Rosie in the face and didn't even care that she was crying loudly much to Boris's shock, as he felt like he wasn't getting enough attention in the family.

In the earlier seasons, Caillou would constantly whine and throw temper tantrums whenever things do not go his way, such as when Boris told him that the circus was actually the following the day instead of that day, causing him to throw a temper tantrum on the floor over a broken toy car, but starting in season 3, Caillou's whiny behavior and temper tantrums have been phased out, as he is much more nicer towards others and rarely ever throws tantrums.

Though the main reason for why Caillou acts spoiled in the first place is because his parents rarely ever give him any sort of punishment or discipline whatsoever, as they always let him get away with whatever he does and never scold him. Though the only exception to this is where Boris tells Caillou to "stop all that racket" as he woke up Rosie as stated before where he throws a tantrum.

Caillou is inquisitive and curious, and he enjoys cars and dinosaurs. He also likes to play the piano as one of his interests. When he was in preschool, he met Leo, who would later become his best friend, at first, Leo was mean to Caillou, but in the end they became friends. Another one of his closest friends is Clementine, who often invites him into joining her in various activities.

In the New Adventures series and CGI reboot, Caillou's personality has become much more mellowed, as he does not throw temper tantrums as much as he did in the original series, with his parents actually grounding him for doing something bad, such as refusing to eat his broccoli during dinner, and not listening to his mom to stop playing video games.

Trivia[]

  • Caillou lives on a house in 17 Pine St.
  • Caillou's misbehavior throughout the show made him an infamous character among older viewers, since Caillou's troublemaking and whining was considered to be annoying and his parents accepting his actions rather than disciplining him didn't clearly show that his actions were wrong and as such he didn't learn from his mistakes. Parents have even claimed that their children became naughtier when watching Caillou and copying the titular character's behavior. Caillou is considered to be the most universally reviled children's program by many people, which has led to many posts, memes, discussions, and even official news articles detesting it, becoming a well-known internet phenomenon.
    • Caillou was eventually taken off of PBS Kids on January 5, 2021, but later aired on Cartoonito from September 13, 2021 to May 4, 2022.
  • In the books, Caillou originally had hair, but this was changed due to the fact that it would make him unrecognizable, so the creators decided to leave him bald, leading to the urban myth that Caillou has cancer/progeria.
  • Caillou used to have pages on both the Heroes Wiki and the Villains Wiki. However, both articles were deleted because Caillou has no heroic or villainous traits.
  • Caillou (along with Dora and Little Bill) is the main victim of "grounded videos" made on animation websites such as Vyond (formerly, but still legally known as GoAnimate) and Plotagon.
