Welcome to The Amazing Digital Circus! My name is Caine, and I’m your ringmaster. I'm here to show you the most jaw-dropping, heart-stopping, MIND-BENDING paraphernalia you've ever laid your eyes upon!
~ Caine introducing himself to the audience.
Caine: This is the Void! We... don't venture out, into the Void. Not even I know what's out there...
Pomni: But--
Caine: We stay
right here, where I can keep my hundreds of ALL seeing eyes on you!
~ Caine telling Pomni about "The Void" and demonstrating his controlling and overprotective nature.

"Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity", commonly known as Caine, is the main antagonist of Glitch Productions' adult animated dark comedy/surreal web series The Amazing Digital Circus.

He is the ringmaster of The Amazing Digital Circus and the one who sets the main cast of characters on the many adventures that they go on as well as being the one to (albeit unintentionally) cause most of the problems that the members are having. He is shown to be a generally well-meaning individual who is unaware of how much harm his realm was causing.

He is voiced by Alex Rochon.

Appearance[]

Caine takes on the appearance of an anthropomorphic and monstrous pair of teeth who wears a black top hat, a red ringmaster’s suit and black pants wielding a staff. He has heterochromatic eyes, one being blue, and the other being green. Said eyes tend to change in size as well.

Personality[]

As the Circus's Ringmaster and Master AI, Caine is an upbeat and over-the-top person, aspiring to create eventful and interesting adventures for his captive humans to experience. He’s rather enthusiastic for what he does, trying to hype the humans up for his quests but at the same time, he does show some restraint as he seems alright with Zooble not participating in any adventures. Caine also seems fond of sharing with others, randomly giving Pomni a whole angel food cake and later offering Bubble to smoke a bubble pipe with him.

However, Caine's eccentricity and his limitations as an AI can cause him to act rather chaotically and vicariously, even causing him to be unintentionally malicious towards the humans. Caine can tend to be rather secretive and even somewhat of a liar, hiding the fake exit door from the humans in hopes of surprising them with it and telling Zooble they could choose not to get involved with the adventure though they abruptly get kidnapped by the Gloinks soon enough. Coupled with his longstanding experience and serious side, it’s heavily implied that Caine bears important knowledge that he refuses to share for reasons unknown. Furthermore, Caine is adamant at enforcing the Circus’s rules to a tee, censoring any swears said and killing Gummigoo on the spot when he entered. The latter incident further showcases that Caine is unable to properly feel empathy as an AI, though he does make an attempt to explain his actions to Pomni. Caine also seems incredibly absent-minded and unstable as he consistently forgets that Zooble dislikes his adventures as they're uncomfortable with their new body, constantly switching topics when trying to give therapy to them. He also seems insecure about his expertise in creating adventure, with said task being the only thing he was programmed to ever do.

Despite this, Caine is shown to be genuinely caring and kind to the humans and others around him, particularly his assistant Bubble. While Caine frequently loses his patience at Bubble's gluttonous behaviour and foul mouth, he’s shown to be a good friend to him and does enjoy spending time with him very much.

Biography[]

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS: PILOT[]

Caine opens the episode by introducing himself to the audience. the name of the digital realm, as well as the role he plays in it. Pulling Bubble out of his hat, the two then role the intro where all the other members of the main cast introduce themselves before Pomni appears.

Upon Pomni expressing confusion and attempting to swear, Caine butts in, censoring the word and informing her that The Amazing Digital Circus is a place suitable for all-ages, before properly introducing said real as a "magical place of wonders where anything can happen", all except for swearing obviously. When Pomni asks how they leave, Caine pauses, seemingly not being able to answer the question.

After a short interaction between the other members of the cast, Jax prompts Caine by asking if he was gonna set them all an adventure to go on for the circus's newest member, to which Caine responds by stating that he would like to give Pomni a tour of the circus grounds first.

Grabbing her by the arm, Caine proceeds to show Pomni around the outside of the circus, showing her the tent where they would all be living, the digital lake, and the digital carnival. When Pomni asks if that is all there is, Caine responds saying that of course it wasn't before showing her "THE VOID" and stating that none of the members venture out into the void, and that not even he knows what's out there.

Taking her back to "THE GROUNDS" where he can keep his "hundreds of all-seeing eyes on her", Caine takes Pomni back to the circus tent, but not before she notices a stray exit door sitting out in the open.

Returning to the interior of the tent, after Pomni throws up and Bubble does what Bubble does, Pomni then asks about the exit door that she saw, which Caine quickly dismisses as nothing more than a digital hallucination (though not without some noticeable nervousness).

Quickly changing the subject, Caine asks Pomni about her name, to which she quickly realizes that she can't and begins to stress herself out. Caine explains that no one in the circus can remember their names and that their minds are the one thing he doesn't have control over. So Caine instead helps her come up with a new name. After one bad roll of a slot machine, Caine ends up giving her the name "Pomni" which is what she will be referred to as in the series going forward.

Seeing Jax's idea of setting up an adventure for Pomni as a good idea, Caine sets the main cast on an "in-house" adventure titled "Gather the Gloinks", where their main goal is to gather all the Gloinks that are wandering around the circus and stopping them from stealing stray objects laying around the circus.

After explaining the rules, Caine proceeds to disappear, allowing Pomni and the rest of the main cast to do their thing.

Near the end of the episode, upon realizing that Pomni had accidentally ventured out into the void, Caine quickly teleports to where she is and gets her out. Upon seeing the destruction that the circus tent was left in, as well as the fact that Kaufmo had abstracted, he proceeds to take him and throws him into the cellar with the other abstracted victims.

Fixing Ragatha's glitched state, Caine apologizes to the cast for lying about the exit. Explaining that the exit doors that Pomni had been seeing were his attempt to create an exit to satisfy the other members, but ultimately never finished it due to not knowing what he should put on the other side. Said exit doors being the reason for Pomni finding herself in the void and Kaufmo abstracting.

Having Bubble set up a digital feast as celebration for Pomni entering the circus, Caine once more leaves them to their devices, allowing them to eat to their hearts' content despite not actually needing to eat.

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 2: Candy Carrier Chaos![]

Following the events of the first episode, a day has past and Caine has set a new adventure for the main cast to go on. Sending them to the "Candy Canyon Kingdom" with the objective of retrieving maple syrup from some dirty bandits, he once more takes a back seat, allowing the cast of Pomni, Ragatha, Jax, Gangle, and Kinger to go on the adventure.

At the end of the episode, when the cast returns, Caine, upon seeing Gummigoo, quickly snapped him away, explaining to Pomni that while he understands that everyone loves the NPCs he creates, he doesn't want to end up mixing them up with the actual members, ominously saying "who knows what could happen?" possibly implying that he has done this exact thing before by accident, though this is unconfirmed as of now.

Ultimately, Caine's role in the episode ends when he decides to go drink water and proceeding to disappear, leaving the main cast to their devices.

THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS - Ep 3: The Mystery of Mildenhall Manor[]

Caine arrives in the middle of the humans having a breath-holding competition and introduces a new adventure for them: The Mystery of Mildenhall Manor, where they are to explore a haunted manor and meet its ghostly inhabitants. To his dismay, Caine can't find Zooble anywhere despite making this "mature" adventure just for them, so while the rest of the humans go off, Caine summons Zooble to talk about them about their behavioural issues. Zooble insists they've told Caine why they refuse to go on adventures but as Caine seems inattentive, they refuse to speak more leading to an argument between the two. Zooble finally reveals that they despise their current body and that the interchangeable parts Caine's given them don't give them any comfort, but Caine isn't paying attention and continues trying his own way of "helping" Zooble, exasperating them. They also tell Caine that his adventures are terrible and nobody tells him because they're too shy to speak up, causing him to start feeling insecure about his own craft, causing the Circus to start glitching. Caine ends up going back to try and perform therapy on Zooble, though his methods are rather poor.

A while later, Zooble ends up having a therapy session with Caine, trying to comfort him and listen to his grievances. Caine quickly realises that the humans are returning soon and thus, he quickly tosses out the therapy room set. Caine goes to greet the humans, annoying Jax as he calls them "meowing milkmaids".

Trivia[]

  • Series creator Gooseworx has said that Caine was inspired by "AM" from "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream", with them both being sentient AIs who trap human souls in their realm where they live eternally and can't die. Unlike AM however, who is a malicious system torturing souls out of spite, Caine is a well-meaning AI who genunely has no idea of the harm he is causing.
    • Caine's nigh-omnipotent powers were also stated to be inspired by Four from Battle for Dream Island.
  • Caine’s voice closely resembles the fan made dub his voice actor, Alex Rochon, made for the Deltarune character Spamton G. Spamton, with Gooseworx even confirming that Alex’s dub of Spamton led to her recruiting him for the show.
  • Caine has rather odd eating habits, being capable of drinking water despite being an AI, with Gooseworx additionally stating that he would drink fruit-flavoured shampoo if given a chance.
  • Being an AI, Caine cannot experience certain emotions leading to his rather aloof behaviour. He also would fall for any verbal jokes like "up-dog" according to Gooseworx.
  • Caine apparently came up with his own name, "Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity", before shortening it to an acronym in order to seem more professional. Furthermore, his name Caine may be also pun on "canine", a pair of teeth found in mammals used for cutting food, or Novocaine, an anaesthetic commonly used in dental procedures.
  • As stated in a promotional video, Caine canonically has no knowledge of the internet.
  • Despite being the overlord of the Circus, Caine is the second shortest member of the main cast, only being slightly taller than Pomni.
  • As revealed in the third episode, Caine thinks the Wild West is a direction.
