Everybody seeks happiness! Not me, though! That’s the difference between me and the rest of the world. Happiness isn’t good enough for me! I demand euphoria!
~ Calvin
It's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy…Let's go exploring!
~ Calvin's last quote.

Calvin is one of the two titular main protagonists (alongside Hobbes) of the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip franchise, he is an extremely mischievous kid who tends to cause trouble both across his neighborhood and at school, but has some nice/caring moments sometimes. And is the best friend of Hobbes (who is seemingly his imaginary friend as well, due to only Calvin being able to see him).

However, his friendship with Hobbes is extremely rocky at times, as he also tends to get into fights with Hobbes sometimes. Meaning that their friendship is not 100% healthy.

Appearance[]

Calvin usually appears with a red shirt, black pants, and always has yellow hair, however, he wears different clothes at times. Such as wearing a red hat and green mittens when it's snowy outside.

He also appears different when he uses his imagination/while in his alter-egos, such as him wearing a superhero mask and cape when he's in his Stupendous Man alter-ego.

Personality[]

Usually, Calvin is a mischievous, rebellious and reckless kid who can easily break things because of his careless behavior and challenges authority, such as that of his parents, babysitter Rosalyn and teacher Miss Wormwood. His demeanor is mean-spirited and obnoxious for much of the time, especially to Susie Derkins, whom he frequently plays unkind pranks on and rejects when she tries to be nice to him. He has even projected this behavior to his parents and Hobbes as well. However, Calvin is not always like this, as he is sometimes overall nice to numerous people (including Hobbes, despite them having an extremely unhealthy friendship most of the time), including Susie (even if he rarely is). As he sends her a hate-mail valentine, and Susie then admits to impressing his hate-mail, and while the creator of the comic strip series (Bill Watterson) has confirmed that they are in a nascent relationship, they never acted like this to each other again after this. Making this barely worth noting, but Calvin is still portrayed as a sympathetic victim at times, such as being kicked out of his baseball team by some bullies just because he accidentally scored for the other team (with Mr. Lockjaw doing nothing to help) and accidentally getting hit in the face by a baseball the night prior by his father. Calvin is seemingly much more nicer to Hobbes in the final strip of the series. As he willingly goes sledding with him down a hill in their final appearance, making him on and off.
