Captain Craboo, as named by Grizzly, is a character from We Bare Bears. It is a small crab that was originally marketed for use in cooking, but was bought by Grizzly as a pet. It made its first appearance in the episode Emergency and appeared again in Captain Craboo.

Why isn't he heroic or villainous?[]

  • He is just an animal following his instincts, meaning that his actions of pinching Ice Bear and Nom Nom were done merely out of instinct and not out of genuine villainy or heroism.

Biography[]

When Grizzly went shopping at the Food Market in the episode "Emergency", he decided to buy a crab as a pet, leaving Panda and Ice Bear home alone. After he comes home, Grizzly explains to Panda how he went to the supermarket and got a new pet that he named Captain Craboo. Ice Bear attempts to close the fridge, but Panda is in the way. After managing to get it stuck from Panda, Grizzly holds it open and the two Bears insist he pet the crab. Ice Bear doesn't want to, but they force him to anyway and the crab ends up crawling up his arm and pinching his ear. In a fit of pain, Ice Bear freaks out and runs around the house aimlessly, crashing into things and knocking things over. After Panda and Grizzly manage to hold him down on a swivel chair with plastic wrap, they find he's unable to speak properly as well, only giving gibberish.

Grizzly tries to call emergency services to get to the hospital but is unable to, the operator ending up blocking his number. He decides another form of travel and rolls Ice Bear, with Craboo still latched onto his ear, out the door on their way to the Hospital. The Bears make their way to the subway, having to squeeze onto a nearly full train. Later, they have to get off the train and onto another. As they're heading to the other train, the crab uses its free claw to latch onto a booth. The train departs before they're able to free Ice Bear and the crab. Not wanting to wait, the Bears get a buddy ride but eventually have to get out of the car once the driver starts driving between cars on the wrong side of the road during a traffic jam.

They continue on their way to the hospital by foot, Grizzly gets an idea and quickly goes to retrieve a bike from a bike rental area. He uses a rope to tie Ice Bear to the bike and Grizzly begins to ride to the hospital, with Panda leading the way with his GPS. After some twists and turns, Craboo snaps the rope and Ice Bear has to grab it with his mouth. After riding a bit more, the crab ends up snapping the rope again as the Bears turn, causing him to ride down a road. Panda notices and makes Grizzly stop, the both of them riding the direction Ice Bear went. They end up finding themselves in an alley where the crab and a now empty swivel chair is. Panda and Grizzly start searching the city for Ice Bear, calling out his name. After ending up in a small portion of the city, the crab ends up walking into a building, to which the Bears follow and end up meeting a Mind-Reader. After asking her for help, the mind-reader read the crab's mind. She turned out to be a fraud. Panda even said the crystal ball wasn't even a real crystal ball and that it was only a fogged up snow-globe. After shaking it and looking at the figure inside (An ice skater) he realizes the moments from before and Grizzly figures out where Ice Bear had went. Taking Captain Craboo with them, the Bears head to the ice skating rink and find Ice Bear lying on the middle of the ice, letting him have his moment of peace. Later, the Bears manage to get Ice Bear home and have him settled in the fridge. They tell him to call if he needs anything. They also try to get Ice Bear to pet Craboo, who now has oven mitts on its claws, but he doesn't.

In the episode "Captain Craboo", Ice Bear is first to discover that the Bears' house has been shredded on the inside, including Panda's Mr. Penguin and Grizzly's Jam-Jams (Pajamas). Ice Bear finds a trail that leads to the bathroom, and the bears discover Craboo has hidden in their toilet (Much to Panda's disgust). Ice Bear, still hateful of Craboo for pinching him in "Emergency", attempts to kill him with his axe, but his brothers hold him back and Grizzly takes the axe from him. After a bit of debate, Grizzly and Panda agree to let him go free and carry him to the front door. When he refuses to leave, Ice Bear strikes him with a broom, smacking him out of the house just as a rainstorm comes in. Unable to take the potential guilt of letting an animal freeze in the rain, Grizzly lets him back in, much to Ice's dismay. When he flips off of the couch, Craboo does the same, making Grizzly and Panda think he can do tricks. They decide to keep him while promising Ice they will train him to the best of their ability.

The Bears spend the next few days using Craboo's pinching to their advantage, from cutting hair, to opening mail and sugar packets, to cutting out magazine pages, all while Ice Bear maintains his distance. At the same time, Craboo gets himself into trouble by cutting other things as well, such as flowers, a man's guitar strings, someone's cane and constantly pinching Grizzly and Panda. Eventually, Craboo approaches Ice, who still wants nothing to do with him. When Ice tries to point him away, Craboo begins to mimic his movements, eventually leaving. Ice Bear then goes down for a nap, but is awakened by his brothers, who want him to come with them to take Craboo to the pet store. They arrive at the pet store, which is being visited by Nom Nom, who still holds disdain for the bears. When they arrive, they show him Craboo and he is immediately repulsed by the crab. When Ice Bear tries to get them to leave, Nom Nom shoves Ice Bear to the floor, causing Craboo to pinch both of Nom Nom's ears in front of his fans. This action allows Ice Bear to finally warm up to Craboo, but Nom Nom immediately has him arrested.

In prison, Craboo has had his pinchers restrained, but the Bears promise they will get him out soon, using themselves as lawyers under the promise that love will help them win. In court, Nom Nom has given himself a series of false bandages to make sure Craboo looks guilty. He then lies, falsely claiming he was advertising pet shampoo when Craboo attacked him, even going so far as to claim that he had cut off one of his fingers. Grizzly fights back by showing the court several pictures of Craboo and calling Panda as a witness. Despite his sincere testimony, Nom Nom, continuing to use lies and deceit, manages to win over the court by making it look like Craboo was attacking him again. Having had enough, Ice Bear steps in and saves Craboo from the police and the Bears escape the courtroom. Nom Nom furiously demands the police find them. The Bears and Craboo become wanted for the incident and are unable to return to their house since the police have already commandeered it. They camp outside for the night and Panda sings with a guitar app, bringing them all together; he then wonders that they may have been selfish with Craboo, due to them being the reason that he was even arrested in the first place. Grizzly agrees and decides to think it over in the morning.

The next morning, Panda goes out for breakfast but spots the police have found them thanks to a photo Panda had taken of Craboo being tagged by its location. Not long after Panda wakes his brothers, the police find them and they embark on a chase that leads them into a lumber cutting plant and later an area near the ocean. They then decide to set Craboo free into the ocean, but Officer Murphy's partner corners them, demanding the crab be surrendered to him. They manage to evade him by jumping onto a car, prompting the officer to inform command. They are almost caught, but Ice Bear manages to jump onto another car to avoid them. The cops refuse to give up, so Ice Bear jumps from car to car, eventually landing onto a student driver's car. At this point, the chase has been broadcasted onto the news and their friends are all watching the action unfold. Nom Nom, now inside a helicopter, then attempts to take Craboo via grapple gun, but the Bears refuse to let him go. Eventually, he slips out of their grasp, but Nom Nom is forced to let him go when Craboo snaps his nose. He then lands onto the pilot's head, causing him to bail. Nom Nom then attempts to get the other parachute, but Craboo grabs it, prompting Nom Nom to throw both him and the parachute out of the helicopter. Ice Bear saves Craboo by jumping for him while Nom Nom crashes.

In the aftermath, the Bears say their goodbyes, but Craboo doesn't leave until he has Ice Bear mimic him by covering his eyes, then proceeds to leave into the ocean. The police then arrive and secure the beach, only to learn of Craboo's departure. They then find Nom Nom, who immediately demands the Bears' arrest, only to be arrested himself for disorderly conduct. The Bears are then sentenced to community service, for a total of five hundred hours and all greatly miss Craboo. Meanwhile, on an unknown island, Craboo lives freely, snipping a large assortment of objects to resemble the Bears, showing that he misses them too.

In the episode "More Everyone's Tube", Craboo appears on Ice Bear's head during the acapella theme song.

Appearance[]

Captain Craboo is mainly vermilion and not quite red. He has an orange underbelly and two small claws. He is small in size, as he was originally supposed to be sold as food at the supermarket. His eyes are on stalks, which he can seemingly retract and extend at will. He also foams at the mouth when he becomes agitated.
