~ Chatacabra's entry in the Hunter's Notes |
Chatacabra are monsters introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. They are a species of Amphibian native to the Forbidden Lands which are known to adhere rocks to their arms, enhancing their already impressive physical power. Known for preying on anything small enough to bully around, they are one of the first monsters encountered by the Hunter's Guild in the Lands.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous[]
Chatacabra are monsters that, thanks to lacking the intelligence, do not possess a moral agency. Thus, any harmful acts they conduct are all out of predatory or survival instinct.
Physiology[]
The Chatacabra is a large, frog-like Amphibian, distinguished by its hulking, ape-like figure. Its back is covered in a teal, striped hide with several black spikes on the edges, while its belly is beige in colour. Its head is relatively square and possesses many spikes on its lower jaw, with its long, powerful tongue possessing small spikes as well. The Chatacabra's forelimbs possess four fingers and have spiked grooves on the forearm, which the Chatacabra uses to trap sticky saliva from its tongue.
Abilities[]
As a monster, the Chatacabra is naturally more powerful, durable and resilient than the average human, being capable of sending hunters flying with a swing of its arms. Its long tongue is not only strong, but also covered in an adhesive saliva that it applies to its arms. During the heat of battle, this sticky solution sticks rocks and debris to the Chatacabra's arms, allowing it to deal huge amounts of damage to foes it pummels.
Behaviour[]
As relatively weak denizens of the Windward Plains, Chatacabra feed mainly on small monsters, preferring prey that frequent the fulgurite caverns such as Bulaqchi. However, they aren't picky about food, with one individual attempting to eat Y'sai and his Seikret after they fell into its territory. In battle, the Chatacabra shows a gluttonous side, often charging at foes mouth open and even using licks as a method of attack. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be too smart as its willingness to eat the hunter allows it to be baited into charging blindly.
Habitat[]
Chatacabra can be found all over the Windward Plains, nesting and primarily living in the fulgurite caverns. They will occasionally venture out to the savannah to drink from rivers.
Trivia[]
- As of writing, the Chatacabra is the first and only Monster Hunter Wilds monster added to Monster Hunter Now.
- The name Chatacabra likely derives from chattaan (चट्टान), meaning "rock" in Hindi, and shares the same second half with Tetsucabra. However, even though they belong in same classification, their close relation with each other has yet to be confirmed.
- Similar to Nibelsnarf it will 'eat' barrel bombs in its path while it is charging, causing them to explode in its mouth.
- When beaten to near-death, the Chatacabra always retreats to its nest and sleeps, allowing an opening for powerful strikes.
- It can also be baited into charging into crevices within the fulgurite walls, causing it to get stuck and leaving its rear end vulnerable to attacks.
