Biography[]
The Little Mermaid[]
In the movie, Chef Louis only makes two appearances. He makes his initial appearance in Prince Eric's Castle kitchen, where he prepares fish feasts for Grimsby, Prince Eric, and Ariel while singing Les Poissons. After taking a leaf from the counter, Louis ultimately discovers Sebastian, who has entered the kitchen to hide from the maids, and tries to cook him. He immerses Sebastian in a sauce, dabs him with flour, shoves bread in his mouth, and throws him into a saucepan of boiling water, supposing the crab was dead. Louis spots the crab and tries to get a better look, but he gets pinched in the nose (which makes him have a lifelong resentment toward Sebastian) as Sebastian escapes being boiled alive. In the course of attacking Sebastian and chasing him around the kitchen, Louis makes a huge mess (Sebastian drops the sauce bowl on his head, a big pot falls on his foot, and Louis gets his hand burned on a hot burner). When Carlotta, Eric's maid, goes to check after hearing loud, smashing noises coming from the kitchen, she discovers Louis destroying the space. Louis gives Carlotta a bashful apology and a hesitant smile in response to her furious demand to know what he is doing. Then Carlotta grabs the fish dish and walks out of the kitchen.
At the film's conclusion, he makes a reappearance aboard the wedding ship for Prince Eric and Princess Ariel. There, he sees Sebastian perched atop the wedding cake and starts hunting down the crab again. However, Sebastian stops Louis by using his claws to cut a rope. Louis is struck in the face by a wooden beam, breaking all but two of his teeth and falling out of his mouth. Then, as Sebastian leaps from the ship and rejoices in defeating the unyielding cook, Louis passes out.
The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea[]
In the direct-to-video follow-up, Louis makes three appearances. At first, he can be seen making a cake for Melody's birthday celebration. "No, Your Highness," Louis responds when Ariel peers into the kitchen to ask him if he has seen Melody. He then displays Melody's birthday cake, the twelve candles he placed on top, and declares it one of his masterpieces, saying in French, "C'est manifique." He almost destroys it when he throws his ladder off balance, but he recovers with a slightly embarrassed expression on his face, and Ariel walks away with a warm, entertained laughter on the expression on her face. Melody is embarrassed as Sebastian unintentionally ruins the cake. When Louis realizes what has occurred, he lashes out at Sebastian with a cleaver and threatens to murder him for destroying the cake. When Louis uncomfortably declares his intention to kill Sebastian as he flees, Carlotta squirts him with water and chastises him for his actions, much to his humiliation.
Carlotta grabs him at the end of the movie, and they both dive into the ocean.
