Chirag Gupta is a supporting character in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise. He is Greg's frenemy.
He is portrayed by Karan Brar in the live-action trilogy and voiced by Veda Maharaj in the 2021 animated adaptation.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
- He isn't a hero due to not committing any heroic acts, and in the books only appears as an occasional side character.
Personality[]
In the films, Chirag is shown to be an egotistical showboat and Greg's frenemy. In the live-action Rodrick Rules, he told Greg all about Holly, which he and Rowley found weird. He is one of the shortest kids in the school, leading to him getting picked on by the older kids. When the Invisible Chirag joke was still going on in the school, he tricked Greg by pretending to be Holly so that he can acknowledge he exists. He also tried taunting Rowley with a corn dog in order to make him say he exists. In the books however, he told on Greg to Principal Roy, making him apologize.
In the animated film however, he replaces the role of Colin Lee and is not a friend of Greg. He is last seen when he says Greg has the Cheese Touch then runs away along with all the other kids.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown whether Chirag will return in the books or not as he hasn't made an appearance since Cabin Fever.
- For the film, Karan Brar had a dialect coach to help him strengthen his Indian accent for the role of Chirag, as he naturally spoke with an American accent.
