Eduardo Malone (otherwise known as Coach Malone) is a major character in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, exclusively appearing in the live-action trilogy. He appears as a major character in the first film, and the secondary antagonist of Rodrick Rules.
He serves as the film replacement for Mr. Underwood in the books, and is portrayed by Andrew McNee.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
- He is not a hero as he is only doing his job, and he was seemingly only trying to scare Pete and his friends away rather than save Greg and Rowley from them.
- He isn't a villain due to not committing any crimes, with the worst thing he did being chasing Greg and Rodrick for pranking him.
Appearance[]
Coach Malone is a white male with black hair and a gym outfit as seen in the first film. In Rodrick Rules in the chase scene, he is wearing a gray sweater with a blue shirt underneath, and green pants.
Personality[]
Coach Malone is a coach who is enthusiastic about fitness. His favorite game is "Gladiator", which the students (especially Greg) do not like. However, he does not like being pranked, as he had chased Greg and Rodrick (not knowing that it was them) after they had put fake vomit on his car to no avail. Despite that, he seemingly does care about his students, as he had asked if Greg and Rowley were okay after the latter had been forced by Pete Hosey to eat the cheese.
Biography[]
In the 2010 live-action film, he introduces himself to the students as their gym teacher and tells him they're going to play a game he calls "Gladiator". He starts by putting the older and stronger kids on Shirts, and the smaller and weaker kids on Skins. During the game, the Shirts win over the Skins easily, forcing Greg and Rowley to run away and hide for the remainder of class.
Coach Malone is not seen again until the climax, where he scares Pete Hosey and his friends away, as they drive away in their truck to never be seen again and asks Greg and Rowley if they were okay before leaving.
In Rodrick Rules, he serves as the secondary antagonist, where he chases Greg and Rowley after being pranked with fake vomit on his car, not knowing it was them. He threatens the two by saying they messed with the "wrong athlete", forcing them to run away. Coach Malone almost catches them, but gets stuck between two corners. Greg and Rodrick head to the mall and put their hoodies on two mannequins. When Coach Malone enters, he tackles the two mannequins, thinking they are Greg and Rodrick. As Coach Malone lies on the floor with the broken mannequins with people surrounding him, Greg and Rodrick escape.
In Dog Days, his phone number is unintentionally called by Greg and Rowley when they were trying to find Holly's number. Coach Malone does not recognize Greg, even when he speaks. He tried to threaten Greg but was hung up by him.

- Despite being a gym teacher and is obsessed with fitness, he is ironically seen buying junk food and soda in Rodrick Rules at the gas station.
- Although this could be his cheat day during the day he was pranked.
- Coach Malone is one of the few characters to appear exclusively in the films, as he only plays a role in the first three Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies.
- According to the song Exploded Diper, he apparently hates Löded Diper, just like Frank.
- In the Rodrick Rules movie, the phrase "You can't outrun me! I'm a superstar!" "Everywhere you go, it's me!" when he is chasing Greg and Rodrick is possibly referencing the wrestler John Cena.
