The Dalamadur are a species that appears in the fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter 4. It is a colossal Elder Dragon, the biggest mainline monster in fact, that dwells among the mountain peaks, burrowing through and climbing along the earth. As they can collapse mountain peaks and cause earthquakes with just a single movement, the appearance of a Dalamadur near any human civilisation is a cause for alarm and the dispatching of hunters.
Physiology[]
Comparable in appearance to Najarala, Dalamadur is a gigantic serpentine Elder Dragon. Its face resembles a snake, and it has many fangs, bright red eyes, and hook-like spikes all over its body. These spikes are initially concentrated around its head and neck, but they spread out along its long body until they form a small cluster near the tip of its tail, which is topped with a pair of red barbs that it can rattle like a rattlesnake. It has Najarala's enormous clawed hands, but all that remains of its hind legs are little spikes that resemble those of some snakes. When angry, the luminous vents on its chest spew forth vapor. When angry, it will also glow crimson on its face and tail. Interestingly, like real snakes Dalamadur lacks proper eyelids, instead having a keratinous sheath that covers its eyes when it's staggered.
Abilities[]
Dalamadur can easily cling to terrain and burrow through stone thanks to its clawed forelegs and barbed torso. Due to its enormous size and almost unparalleled physicality, it has the ability to generate large earthquakes when it burrows and to destroy rock structures when it attacks. It can paralyze enemies with the paralyzing toxin on its tongue, and it can breathe an unidentified gas that burns like fire. It can also call forth meteor-like missiles out of the sky, however it's unclear how this power works.
Behavior[]
Nestled in the peaks of the Heavenly Mountains around Cathar Village is Dalamadur's home. Its many hook-like spines could make it easier for it to go across the dangerous terrain since they might provide it a stronger hold than it could have with only its body and claws. There are stories from the locals that the debris that falls often in the Heavenly Mountains is caused by Dalamadur's burrows. If Dalamadur visits other places is unknown.
Dalamadur, like many other Elder Dragons, is very protective of its territory and will fight anyone that comes inside it. It has been known to destroy villages as its movements cause landslides and earthquakes.
Habitat[]
It is well known that Dalamadur lives atop Speartip Crag on Heaven's Mount, though it does travel throughout mountain ranges. While the skeletons of Dalamadur-like Elder Dragons are the primary structures composing the Rotten Vale, complete with dormant meteors, these are the remains of their ancestors and it's unclear if modern Dalamadur still participate in the Elder Crossing. A Dalamadur skeleton is also found embedded in the cliffs near the Ruins of Wyveria.
