The Dodogama are a species that appears in the fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter: World. They are Fanged Wyverns that inhabit the Elder's Recess, snacking on bioenergy-rich crystals and spewing out the remaining slag. While not a threat to humans and typically very docile, Dodogamas are occasionally hunted so as to collect specimens for analysis.
Why aren’t they heroic or villainous?[]
- They are quite docile, but gets aggressive when the hunter attacks them since they need self defense.
Appearance[]
The Dodogama is a large, beefy Fanged Wyvern resembling an agamid lizard, possessing small yellow eyes and a rounded head. Similarly to its relative the Great Jagras, Dodogama has a large belly which is primarily covered in white scutes. Its head and body are mainly blue, transitioning to orange along the tail with orange stripes on its body. It also possesses small grey spines on its back and blunt claws on its digits. The Dodogama's most noticeable trait is its crucible-like lower jaw, which has numerous large black scutes surrounding it.
Abilities[]
Dodogama has a reputation for utilizing the pebbles it eats to protect itself. These boulders take on an explosive quality when mixed with its saliva, enabling it to spit them as a potent missile at attackers and predators. But if you break its jaw enough after it's fed, the pebbles within its mouth might shatter too soon, weakening the monster for a little while. It may also launch a charge assault that shoots sparks that can cause a blast.
Like most other monsters, Dodogama is more strong, durable and resilient than a regular human. In battle it will make use of its hefty build to execute powerful charges, squashing the hunter with its bulk and making heavy swipes. However, this bulk also makes them rather sluggish and thus, their attacks are easy to dodge.
Behavior[]
As a rather peaceful monster, Dodogama will only engage in combat with Hunters if they attack it first or if it is engaged in combat with another huge monster. It can often be observed gorging itself on crystals and will bury itself up to its head when sleeping. While it is relatively weak as a monster it is still willing to defend its territory against other monsters to limited degrees of success, seeing as monsters like Deviljho will use them as weapons if they are nearby.
Trivia[]
- Dodogama is often considered in the fandom as one of the cutest monsters, with some vowing to only capture it and others avoiding harming it altogether. This has been acknowledged by Capcom, giving hunters the choice to dress their Poogie in a Dodogama costume and a Master Rank hunt revolving around the monster being assigned by a researcher who's annoyed that no hunter seems willing to hunt the individual impeding research in the Elder's Recess.
- Dodogama won 31st place in the 20th Anniversary Hunter's Choice Poll for top monster, making it the second most popular Fanged Wyvern after Zinogre with its subspecies, Stygian Zinogre.
