~ Doshaguma's entry in the Hunter's Notes |
The Doshaguma is a type of monster introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds. They are a species of Fanged Beast that are native to the Scarlet Forest, only venturing into the nearby Windward Plains on occasion. Highly aggressive and nearly fearless when in an alpha-led pack, Doshaguma are greatly feared by the natives of these lands and thus, hunted by hunters for the safety of people.
Why isn't it heroic or villainous?[]
The Doshagumas are animals that act on predatory instinct. As such, they don't act out of malice, only doing what they need to do in order to survive.
Appearance[]
The Doshaguma is a large, mammalian monster with leonine, ursine and canine traits, adopting a bear-like stance at most times. Its pelt is predominantly a reddish brown, with a mane of golden fur descending from its head down to its rump, said fur also appearing on its tail. It possesses five short claws on each limb, with its arms being covered in several small scutes. The Doshaguma's face is bare and wrinkly, resembling a pitbull's and covered in a reddish skin. It has two black, ovoid bone growths on its forehead, tiny black eyes and a wide mouth with protruding lower canines.
Alpha Doshagumas have a redder coloration overall, being exceptionally large as well. Their manes are also thicker to highlight their strength compared to regular Doshaguma.
Abilities[]
As large, powerful predators in their native habitats, Doshaguma are extremely powerful in terms of physical strength. They are capable of picking up and throwing smaller monsters with incredible ease, and have also been seen plowing through solid earth with their heads alone. Likewise, Doshaguma have been seen fighting off three Balahara at once and still managing to win, with one Alpha individual even being spotted escaping a Balahara-made sand pit, defeating its creator along the way. This displays that Doshaguma are incredibly durable and possess the stamina to fight out long and arduous battles.
Behaviour[]
Belligerent and brutish, Doshaguma are known to be highly aggressive predators that will attack almost anything that comes their way, be it small prey like Dalthydon or large monsters like Lala Barina. Like most Fanged Beasts, they will attempt to intimidate opponents with roars and standing on their hind legs before attacking, using claw swipes and tackles to pummel opponents into submission.
These traits are only exemplified when Doshaguma come together in packs; while they mostly shy away from settlements like Kunafa Village, the presence of a powerful Alpha leader give Doshaguma the confidence to attack human settlements, ignoring dissuaders like the gem chimes imitating Rey Dau's calls in favour of attacking livestock. The Alpha of the pack is often followed closely by two subordinates, who help their leader tackle and beat down their selected prey. Despite this, Doshaguma seem to be rather belligerent to each other even when working together; they often snap and snarl at each other when fighting over food, while the Alpha often bullies and shoves around its weaker subordinates. As Doshaguma are often solitary, it appears that these packs form out of convenience rather than social instinct, with the Doshagumas parting ways once conditions are better and prey is bountiful.
Habitat[]
While native to the Scarlet Forest, Doshaguma have been known to venture out into the Windward Plains, most likely in search of the bountiful herds of Dalthydon there. They tend to linger around the grassier areas, where the shrubbery and landscape ensure that they can camouflage and that prey is likely present nearby.
Trivia[]

- Doshaguma has two turf wars, one against Lala Barina and the other against three Balaharas. In the first one it draws, getting paralysed despite dealing large amounts of damage, while it wins against all three Balaharas in the latter.
- All Alpha Doshaguma are considered Gold Crown Doshaguma, meaning that they come in the largest size possible for the species.
