Hope you don't mind, but could you tell me WHERE THE HELL IS THE BOSS?!
~ ENA introducing herself at the start of the game.
ƎNA IS SEARCHING FOR THE BOSS!
~ ENA's motivations for the game.
Bless you for your business!
~ ENA's catchphrase.

An ENA is the titular main protagonist of the 2025 surreal adventure game ENA: Dream BBQ.

A resident of a mysterious, dream-like world, ENA's goal for the game is to search for a figure known only as the Boss. As such, she embarks on a journey with her work partner Froggy to search for this enigmatic entity, kicking off the game's start.

Her salesman side is voiced by Aleks Le, while her meanie side is voiced by Nola Klop.

Why isn't she heroic or villainous?

  • While it's heavily implied from dialogue by ENA and Froggy that they plan to harm or kill the Boss, the reasons for them doing is are far too vague, with the possibility of them being metaphors for something else also being open. This seems to be supported by Froggy getting shocked at ENA making more explicit euphemisms for killing the Boss, implying that eliminating him isn't the plan at all.
    • Furthermore, while many characters in game regard ENA as a charlatan and imply that she has committed some sort of atrocity, it must be noted that ENAs are a species. Thus, the discrimination she faces may only be because of the prejudice against her species as a whole, and not something she herself has done.
  • ENA's deeds of helping others are mostly pragmatic as she needs their services to progress with her job, meaning that she isn't truly benevolent. Froggy also remarks that she's done "prism schemes" (referencing real-world pyramid schemes) before, indicating that she could be a conwoman taking advantage of other people.

Appearance

Like her predecessor, ENA is a geometric entity resembling a young human woman whose body is split into two colours, being red on the left and white on the right. She has medium length black hair in a bob with notches on her right side, as well as two ahoge at the back of her head. ENA's eyes are triangular, with a single eyelash on her right eye. Interestingly, ENA has a much more modular appearance than her predecessor, with her head, limbs, and torso all floating separately. Her right limbs are also polygonal while her left limbs are rounded. Interestingly, she has no fingers on her left arm, making her hand appear mitten-like, while her right fingers end in sharp talons.

For clothing, ENA wears a dark grey soldier's cap, a white shirt with puffy short sleeves, as well as grey shorts with red suspenders. She also wears black shoes and mismatched black socks: thigh-highs on her right side and ankle socks on her left. She also uses a yellow megaphone which she pulls out from inside her shirt.

During the Purge event, ENA's body begins sprouting red branches from her chest, entangling her limbs and piercing parts of her body. The red side of her face has been replaced with a black void, while her white side's eyes have black sclerae and white pupils. ENA is also missing her right arm, having sacrificed it to enter the event.

After getting transported to the Bathroom's realm, ENA's appearance drastically changes into a more humanoid one. In this form, her body is mostly teal, with only her left limbs being red, while her clothes become much more smooth and "realistic". She also gains a gaping hole in her torso which a glowing red outline of her normal self emerges from. ENA's eyes also turn blue, and she gains eye bags. She is also freuqently depicted with a line of drool coming from her mouth.

Personality

Like her predecessor, ENA's personality is split into two aspects: the salesperson side and the meanie side. Unlike the previous ENA, this ENA seems to struggle less with switching between her two sides, fluently swapping between her two personalities mid-sentence without experiencing any emotional outbursts. As such, ENA seems more mature and emotionally sound than her predecessor, lending her an air of professionalism.

In her salesperson mode, ENA is a charismatic and enthusiastic person, displaying a joyful and casual personality. She tends to be rather affable and laid back, often inserting little quips and jokes into her dialogue. Befitting of her job, ENA often uses business-related phrases in her dialogue and displays a genuine passion for her job, displaying determination to get the job done to the best of her ability. As such, she often compliments and sweet-talks her clients, hoping to make the best of her work. The Witches also remark that ENA seems like a person that'd enjoy "overworking themself", displaying ENA's workaholic nature. Interestingly, ENA seems rather religious in this form, ending off jobs with customers with her catchphrase "Bless you for your business" and occasionally bringing up God. Despite this, ENA is still somewhat sarcastic in this form as she makes a mocking remark when Coral Glasses is unsure about whether she's supposed to talk to her or not, though ENA quickly recognises her as a fellow businesswoman and tries to establish a connection. She also seems to be somewhat of a dishonest snake-oil salesman, presenting absurd business pitches such as “growing your own boss” to others, with the Witches remarking these to be strange even for this series. Thus, it appears that ENA's salesperson side is merely a front she puts on to sweet-talk others into cooperating with her.

In contrast, ENA seems much more short-tempered and unsociable in her meanie mode. A far cry from her mild-mannered and calm salesperson persona, ENA is incredibly loud and boisterous, often losing her temper at the antics of those around her. Focused much more on completing the job than sweetening the deals, she is rude and demanding, insulting almost everyone she talks to especially when they waste her time. She also seems much less empathetic as when she hears about the Taxi Driver's head being stolen, she sarcastically offers her "sympathy", displaying a lack of concern to others. Dialogue from the Purge event also suggests that ENA is able to reveal her true thoughts in this form, remarking that she doesn't really enjoy her job. It appears that ENA's meanie side also comes out automatically as a defence mechanism as when the Vending Machine refuses to serve her, she frantically claims that she hasn't done anything they say she's doing, seemingly harrowed by such an accusation. Furthermore, when hung over after the Purge, ENA displays a more melancholy and self-loathing aspect of herself, displaying a great deal of insecurity and possibly indicating a troubled past.

Biography

ENA: Dream BBQ

Chapter 1: Lonely Door

After hearing Froggy's voice calling out to her, ENA awakens in the Red Outworld: a desolate village with red skies and scorched buildings. She makes her way to a bed-like door and enters it, arriving in the Hub. There, she witnesses Froggy arguing with a strange man. ENA demands to know where the Boss is, to which the man claims to be him. Froggy quickly tells her that he's lying, so the man tells her that he's actually called Dratula. ENA tries to make a sales pitch to Dratula, confusing Froggy. Froggy reveals that he managed to get Dracula to tell him about the Boss's location and chastises ENA for arriving late as it cuts their time to finish the job short. The two review their task of seeking out the Boss, who is hiding on a nearby island. Unfortunately, the air is filled with cigarette smoke that triggers Froggy's allergies, so he asks ENA to find the Receptionist and rectify the problem before they can proceed.

ENA finds the Receptionist who, despite being extremely rude, eventually tells her to seek out one of the genies that reside within the Doors, as they are the only ones with authority to disable the smoke. ENA enters the Lonely Door, which is the only door available, and is transported to the Uncanny Streets. However, during a call with Froggy, ENA begins to be possessed by strange entities, experiencing an uncontrollable urge to visit the Bathroom. Arriving outside, ENA finds a trio of Witches who ask for her help to find their missing sister, directing her to the Seal House where she was last seen. Inside, ENA meets the Shaman, who tells her to go to the Bathroom, she needs to "get a life" in order to reach the entrance. Outside, she also meets various entities that claim that the Bathroom can be reached via the Purge event.

From there, ENA will meet various NPCs with quests that help her in her quest. She helps Shoryo find his Pets in exchange for 10 chocolates, which she spends at the Vending Machine to buy Mayonnaise. She uses the Mayonnaise to block the Watcher's eyes that bother Hoarder Alex who owns the bridge and blocks its access. After Alex refuses to let ENA pass despite her fulfilment, the Watcher blasts him, leaving the way free. In the Northern Gorge, ENA finds the missing Witch, Maude stuck in the clocktower. After using the crane to bring her back to her Witch relatives, Laurel, one of the Witches, gives her the Motherboard, which is the object the Shaman is waiting for.

At one point, ENA also meets Full-Eyed Neighbour who gives her information to find the lost Taxi Drivers Head that ended up in the Gutsy Caves. Some interactions with entities trigger ENA's trauma, while she pleads her innocence.

From there, ENA can choose to go by two different routes: the Purge Route or the Ascension Route:

  • If ENA chooses to ignore the Shaman's request after retrieving the Taxi Driver's Head, she can approach them and board their taxi, taking her to the Dark Uncanny Streets. There, a piece of rubble blasted by a Watcher destroys the Taxi, preventing her from going back. ENA eventually makes her way to the queue for the Purge, where Froggy calls her and informs her that she's at a party where she could die. ENA begins to panic as she realises what she's gotten herself into but has no choice but to go forwards. She sacrifices her right arm to enter the party and frantically runs about to find the Bathroom, though the characters there encourage her to relax and just "follow that whistle". Soon, pink liquid pours from the ceiling, submerging the whole party. ENA reawakens as a bizarre, fish-like creature and, following the advice of following the whistle, finds a larger fish creature which swallows her whole.
  • If ENA chooses to give the Motherboard to the Shaman, he will use it and clones of himself to create the Humanboard, blowing up the Seal House in the process. The skull from said explosion also crushes the Taxi Driver's taxi, preventing her from going to the Purge event. As such, ENA uses the Humanboard as a staircase to ascend to the Orb, braving harsh winds and steep climbs along the way. ENA gets devoured by the Orb upon reaching it and is possessed by the artifact, responding with gibberish to Froggy's calls before she passes out.

Regardless of the route taken, ENA will reawaken in a black void with a splitting headache, now transformed into her humanoid form. She meets a Walker, who points her to a gigantic bathroom located just across a river of luminous white fluid which she must traverse, either using the floating rafts or using the Humanboard. During this, two outcomes can occur:

  • If ENA makes it to the Bathroom, she enters it and pulls the door's genie, Theodora, from a well. Theodora begins to allow ENA to ascend and forgives her previous sins, but quickly stops as soon as she realises who she's helping and prepares to leave. ENA is furious at being turned down after her long journey, so Theodora decides to entertain her persistence with a single wish. She asks for the smoke to be turned off so as to reach the Boss, and while Theodora remarks that ENA's words seem to contrast her true intentions, she helps by creating a portal to the smoke room.
  • If ENA falls in the river (or gets puked on by the giant Walker depending on playthrough), she is transported to a mysterious village inhabited by numerous green and orange people. With the guidance of a man named Unforgiven Frank, ENA is able to find the correct hut, which transports her to a river canal that leads to the broken husk of Theodora. The husk apologises for being unable to do much in her current state and, while doubtful if ENA can really go through her job, agrees to help her turn off the smoke by transporting her to a reality where she succeeded.

Regardless of the outcome, ENA arrives at the smoke machine, which she destroys with a paper fan. ENA walks through a doorway and, after assuring him that her business is settled, is told by Froggy of the Lonely Door's impending closure. She rushes to the exit but arrives too late, causing her to get enveloped in crystals. Imprisoned by these geometrical growths, ENA manages to push her body out of the crystals and a mannequin falls out, getting dragged by a hand through a glowing doorway as the credits roll.

In the post credits scene, Dratula and Froggy are arguing once again, only for the nearby mannequin to begin rapidly mutating before ENA re-emerges. Froggy, startled by her sudden arrival, chastises her for unprofessionalism.

Trivia

  • While she's currently situated in the Neutrals wiki, ENA will probably be moved to the Heroes or Villains wiki if her motivation to target the Boss turns out to be heroic or malicious.
  • While unconfirmed, it's heavily implied that ENA may have been a soldier at one point:
    • ENA's cap heavily resembles a military one.
    • The Red Outworld, where ENA starts her journey, heavily resembles a bombed village, with bomber planes even flying overhead if the player waits long enough.
    • ENA frequently uses military-related lingo, using words such as "aiming" and "target" rather often.
    • When she insists that "she's not doing what they say she's doing" in her exchange with the Vending Machine, the scene briefly cuts to a red sky and a war-torn background while bullets rain down on ENA, heavily implying that she may have committed some crime in a war which she has trauma over.
    • One of the semi-transparent images that can appear on the screen when the game is paused is that of a mushroom cloud, typically produced by a bomb's explosion.
  • Additionally, it's theorised that a stillbirth may have a part to play in ENA's backstory thanks to the numerous birth-related motifs within the game:
    • The Shaman describing the Humanboard as underdeveloped and the soil patches it can be planted in resembling graves might be a euphemism for a stillborn baby.
      • ENA also holds the Humanboard with a sad expression in one of the trailers. As the Humanboard may be a pun on how corpses tend to be "as stiff as a board", this may imply that the Humanboard is meant to represent a dead child, similar to how it is technically ENA's child.
    • The orb that ENA can enter to enter the Bathroom resembles a fetus, with the veins that surround her within resembling those in a womb. Furthermore, ENA's picture in the call interface changes from a developing egg to what appears to be "swimmers" crossing over her face, furthering connections to birth and reproduction.
    • The face that blows freezing winds at ENA during the Ascension Route is named baby_eye in the game's files, possibly representing her grief over a deceased child coming back to haunt her and prevent her from completing her mission.
    • ENA is frequently depicted with a flower known as the angel's trumpet in the trailers, which is a toxic plant which can cause stillbirths. As ENA is depicted with an orange glow at her mouth and on her stomach hole in her hangover form in one of the trailers, this could presumably indicate she ingested the flower, leading to a stillbirth.
  • As revealed by her salesperson voice actor Aleks Le, he based his performance off Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad.
  • ENA's early concept art shows her with her left side being yellow, which is similar in design to Season 1 ENA.
    • Coincidentally, Season 1 ENA's early concept art shows her with a white right side, making her slightly resemble Season 2 ENA.
  • Unlike her predecessor, ENA has three colors associated with her body: red for her left face and body, white for her right face, and light grey for her right upper body.
  • Interestingly, meanie ENA's voice has an echoed effect even without her megaphone.
  • If one calls the Auctioneer (a returning character from the web series) via the data matrix on the floor of the collapsing Uncanny Streets, it's implied that ENA got scammed at one of his auctions as he mentions something about "spending a lot of cash on something that's practically everywhere". Alternatively, this could be a pre-recorded message, implying that the Auctioneer regularly scams people.
    • The collapsing Uncanny Streets being the setting of the episode "Auction Day" and Phindoll's voicemail revealing he's searching for a job both imply that ENA: Dream BBQ could be a prequel to the web series.
  • According to the game's model metrics, ENA is around 2.4m tall, lining up with the joke from the series's creator, Joel Guerra, that the web series ENA is 9 feet, or 2.7 meters tall.
  • ENA seems to be self-aware, seeing as after she makes a pun about having "busyness" at the Crowd Door, she looks at the viewer to see if they got her joke.
  • Currently, ENA has a green form which, despite being frequently seen in the trailers, has yet to be seen in-game.
  • As revealed in the concept art for the game, ENA was initially meant to be nude and geometrical in the Bathroom sequence, with her body being covered in red and white stripes underneath her clothes. Her hangover/humanoid form was initially meant as a style experimentation, but as Joel Guerra liked her humanoid design in this form, he added this form to the game instead.
    • Early concept art also reveals that ENA was meant to have yellow on her meanie side initially before being changed to white.
