Ebrietas, also known as the Daughter of the Cosmos, is a minor antagonist and optional boss in Bloodborne. She is one of the Great Ones of Yharnam.
Appearance[]
As with all the other Great Ones, Ebrietas is an abomination of a creature. Her head appears to be split in half, with the outer layer consisting of two oval eyes and a multitude of tube-shaped growths resembling sponges or noodles. The interior consists of red flesh covered in brown or dark red spots. Her mouth is unseen, but has an opening of four fanged mandibles located at the bottom of her head. The rest of her body is slug-shaped with multiple tentacles protruding from her back, one of which has a pair of skeletal wings.
Story[]
Background[]
Little is known about Ebrietas' origins, although it is possible she was a Pthumerian ascended through kin. She originated from the land of Isz, located in the labyrinths of the Chalice Dungeon. She would be discovered by the Healing Church, which founded the Choir to protect and study her. As the only Great One who sought to coexist with humans, Ebrietas donated her blood to the Church. The Church grew to worship Ebrietas, particularly her blood that they used for their practice of Blood Ministration. However, as time went on, the Church came abusive through their usage of Ebrietas and her blood for their rituals.
Bloodborne[]
The Hunter can find Ebrietas hidden in the Altar of Despair, the crumbled and waterlogged remains of a Chalice Dungeon known as Great Isz. It is hidden in the Upper Cathedral Ward, behind a window in the Lumenflower Gardens found after defeating the Celestial Emissary. At the back of the room is Ebrietas, watching over the corpse of a figure resembling Rom. At first, Ebrietas shows no hostility towards the Hunter and will only fight back when they attack her first.
In battle, Ebrietas uses her tentacles to swipe at the Hunter or to slam her head into the ground. She may also charge if the Hunter puts in some distance between her attacks. Like all other large bosses, attacking Ebrietas enough times may stagger her, enabling a Visceral Attack to her head. After losing half of her health, Ebrietas becomes more aggressive, gaining additional abilities such as summoning numerous magical lasers or spitting blood that causes Frenzy. She can also take flight to release a powerful slam.
Without a doubt, her most dangerous move involves Ebrietas grabbing the Hunter with her tentacles and placing them in her "mouth". She will proceed to maul them, rapidly building up Frenzy. If the Hunter runs out of health before breaking free, Ebrietas will devour the Hunter whole.
Defeating Ebrietas unlocks access to the Isz Gravestone Chalice Dungeon. Ebrietas can be fought as the Layer 3 boss. She retains the same moveset, but has twice as much health and her attacks deal more damage.
Trivia[]
