An animal that makes an appearance in the first Despicable Me film is the elephant. At the Top Secret Research Facility, it made its appearance.

Appearance

This massive gray elephant has a lumpy forehead, large legs, big toe nails, big ears, and lengthy but short tusks, like some elephants have. He has a slight chunkiness as well.

The elephant is inside a lab holding chamber when Gru and two Minions, Tim and Larry, boarded the airship to take the Shrink Ray from the lab. A platter of bananas, which are an elephant's favorite snack, was used to entice the elephant to the Shrink Ray. An employee turned down the lights just as the elephant was about to savor a banana. The elephant's eyes widened as he realized what was happening. He turned to face the Shrink Ray after glancing at the lab personnel. When the worker pressed a button, the Shrink Ray blasted at the elephant. At that point, it was ready to go. The elephant became as little as a mouse. After then, nothing was present. The workers saw that they had effectively shrunk the elephant, as it was now smaller than the platter of bananas, when the lights came back on. Before Gru creates a hole in the building for one of the Minions, the workers thought it was charming when the shrunken elephant played a high-pitched horn. The elephant probably grew back to his regular size after that.

• Nefario Princaple speculates that the reduced elephant has most likely returned to its former size, albeit this is uncertain.
• It is limited to the first movie.
• Although the test subject was an African elephant, it was conducted in East Asia .Asian elephants are distinguished by their rounder heads, smaller ears, and humped backs. While both male and female African elephants can have tusks, only male Asian elephants are able to grow them.
• The elephant's entrance into the holding chamber is unknown, although the staff most likely handled it.
• The elephant's fate was not documented, although it was presumably moved from the large room to a more secure area of the laboratory.
• The elephant most likely had a rapid grow-back since the Shrink Ray effect is transient and occurs when an item has a high mass.
• The elephant could run much faster when it was downsized.
