Ethan Zilgo is a character from the LEGO Nexo Knights franchise and the secondary antagonist of the book The Forbidden Power. He is a Knights' Academy freshman who comes from a wealthy family and thus looks down on commoners.
Why he isn't heroic or villainous[]
- While he studies at the Knights' Academy, which is meant to mentor future protectors of the realm, it's unknown if he wants to become a knight to protect the innocents or for the sake of the perks that come with the occupation.
- His worst act, namely bullying Fletcher, never crosses into attempts to actually murder him.
Biography[]
Ethan Zilgo was born into a privileged family. At some point he became acquainted with a boy named Beak, and eventually the two of them were enrolled into the Knights' Academy.
At the academy entrance, the two boys met Fletcher, an orphan kid from Salty Town. Zilgo and Bowman started off on bad term when the former was surprized by the latter's ignorance of the rest of the kingdom. Later, during the first-graders' field-quest, Ethan and Beak paired up to try and find Ned Knightly's Silver Sword of Silverness. Although Fletcher and Izzy almost got it before they did, they got sidetracked by Fletcher's unexplained "feeling" and ended up in the catacombs beneath the academy, allowing Ethan to find the sword before they returned.
The next day, during classes, Zilgo kept mocking Fletcher despite the others, including school staff, objecting to such behaviour. During sparring, he pretended to apologize to Fletcher and offered him a "fair fight", but instead attempted to beat him up, only to be stopped by Izzy, who almost got into a fight with him before Captain Clash interrupted the students. Zilgo apologized for his behaviour and Clash, buying into his deception, decided to pair him and Fletcher up for the Combatition battle due next day, which he told Bowman about to scare him.
When the Combatition ultimately came, the battle tipped in Ethan's favour as Fletcher could barely counter his attacks, until the Forbidden Power he and Izzy had found in the catacombs was uploaded into his shield, allowing him to knock Zilgo out, though this also led to a blackout all across the school. Later that day, Zilgo was admiring Ned Knightly's sword when Fletcher and Izzy came, saying they needed it. Unaware of what they needed the sword for, Ethan refused to cooperate and even started insulting the two. However, when the Rogul, awakened by Fletcher and thus loyal to him, arrived and Fletcher and Izzy used him to persuade Zilgo to give up, the boy freaked out and ran away.
In the final chapter, it's mentioned that Ethan Zilgo was the only student who didn't take a liking to Fletcher's Rogul after his existence became common knowledge among them, and that he planned to "expose" Fletcher as a "fraud", though it's unknown what he meant by that.
Personality[]
Ethan is prideful about his social status, as well as any of his personal achievements, and can spend a decent amount of time talking about them. Though his opinion on the Nexo Knights as a whole is unknown, he is a fan of Lance Richmond, who is also a nobleman. Ethan cares little about commoners, sometimes even showing disdain towards them, as is the case with his relationship with Fletcher, and even when he uses their assistance, he may humiliate them for being of little help, as shown by his interaction with Chef Munch. Judging from how relentlessly he bullied Fletcher, he seems to enjoy hurting those weaker than him. Though he grows to dislike Izzy, he suggests that if she sided with him instead of Fletch, the two would've made a great team. Said statement also leaves the exact nature of his relationship with Beak unclear, as while they seem to get along pretty well, it doesn't resemble genuine friendship.
Trivia[]
- Zilgo is mentioned to have tanned skin. Whether it's caused by exposure to the sun or is somehow connected to his ethnicity (given that all humans in the Nexo Knights series, much like in other unlicensed LEGO themes, have yellow skin) isn't made clear.
