Fredbear is a major character from the Five Nights at Freddy's Franchise.
He was the original Freddy who appeared alongside Spring Bonnie and was one of two springlock animatronics in the establishment. He also serves as the overarching antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's 4 as well as an Easter Egg in Ultimate Custom Night.
In his Ultimate Custom Night Appearance, he was voiced by Kellen Goff.
Why isn't He Heroic or Villainous?[]
- He lacks any real characterization and the only time he is hostile is in Ultimate Custom Night and even then he is an Easter egg that that can only be activated under specific circumstances.
Biography[]
Games[]
Long before Freddy Fazbear, Fredbear was the mascot of Fredbear's Family Dinner. In 1983, an incident accursed when a child was shoved into his mouth and crushed the child's head. After this he was retired with Spring Bonnie. If it wasn't this incident that sent him into decommission then an incident at an unknown location that involved multiple springlock failures did. He was later shown in the afterlife of William Afton tormenting him along side many other animatronics.
Books[]
Most of the story is similar to the games cannon only in the books, he was a Springlock Suit that was warn by Henry Emily while Spring Bonnie was warn by William Afton. At some point he was retired and was later possessed by Michael Brooks.
Films[]
While he and Fredbear's Family Dinner are never seen or mentioned both are implied to exist due to the presences of Spring Bonnie in the Films. As well as Golden Freddy also being there.
Appearance[]
Fredbear in consistently portrayed as a golden or yellow bear with two black buttons on his chest and a purple bowtie and hat (Although these are sometimes shown to be black). In Ultimate Custom Night he is shown to have black empty eyes. His eye color was confirmed in FNaF World as a light shade of blue or cyan, lighter then Freddy's.
Seen physically in Ultimate Custom Night, Fredbear's appearance is similar to Golden Freddy from the first game but his top hat and bow-tie are purple rather than black, and seemingly glow. Curiously, his original eyes are replaced with phantom-esque, tiny-glowing dots. Some depictions of Fredbear show him with black accessories.
Upon closer inspection when compared to Freddy Fazbear, Fredbear has a different model shape. His ears are smaller, rounder, and less pointy, his top hat is smaller, he has smaller eyebrows, his whiskers are placed in different positions, he's slightly chubbier, has a different head shape, and has a lightly smaller jaw. Seen in his jumpscare, Fredbear seems to be an edited model of Freddy Fazbear, as his arms, torso, ears, and muzzle are nearly identical to Freddy's, and upon looking closely, his endoskeleton appears to be Endo-01.
In plush form, he resembles a Golden Freddy plush but with purple accessories and buttons.
Personality[]
While not much is known about Fredbear's personality, it seems that he is similar to Freddy Fazbear and Golden Freddy. Like Freddy, Fredbear entertains children and sings on stage with his partner Spring Bonnie. However, he seems to be mysterious like Golden Freddy, as his voice is inaudible and garbled.

Trivia[]
- It's unknown why Fredbear has purple accessories, when Golden Freddy's are black.
- This could simply be a minor redesign, as Fredbear has a brown hat and a black bow tie in Five Nights at Freddy's 3.
- In the Five Nights at Freddy's: The Ultimate Guide guidebook, Golden Freddy's appearance on the Five Nights at Freddy's map resembles Fredbear's signature appearance, as his hat was modified to appear purple.
- Whether this was a coincidence or a deliberate choice is still unknown.
- Fredbear is often mistaken as being an incarnation of Freddy Fazbear. Based on his depiction in Five Nights at Freddy's 4, Fredbear and his nightmare counterparts are shown to coexist alongside versions of Freddy Fazbear.
- During the end-of-night cutscene after Night 3, Fredbear, alongside unknown variants of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy, appeared in a television program titled "Fredbear and Friends." The exact nature of this program is unknown.
- The program's date is marked at 1983. This is also the code used to unlock an Easter Egg in Sister Location's Private Room ending.
- During the end-of-night cutscene after Night 3, Fredbear, alongside unknown variants of Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy, appeared in a television program titled "Fredbear and Friends." The exact nature of this program is unknown.
- During the end-of-night cutscenes, the picture of Fredbear on the restaurant's outer wall depicts Fredbear with two black buttons. Despite this, his animatronic form within the same cutscene does not have the black buttons.
- Fredbear (along with Trash and the Gang and Helpy) are the only characters in Ultimate Custom Night to have an exclusive jumpscare sound.
- Fredbear, Golden Freddy, Trash and the Gang, Helpy, and Funtime Freddy are the only characters of the series to have their own jumpscare sounds, outside of Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery.
- Interestingly, Fredbear appears to be covered in shadows. This is likely an attempt to hide his full appearance.
- This isn't necessary, as his hands and legs are off-screen.
- Fredbear is the only animatronic to have no customizable AI and also cannot be summoned by Dee Dee.
- Fredbear is the only character that can be summoned by the player.
- Fredbear has his own mugshot seen in the game's last teaser. However, due to lacking any customizable AI, he does not have a mugshot in-game.
- Fredbear is voiced by Kellen Goff, who had previously voiced Funtime Freddy and Molten Freddy, the latter also appearing in Ultimate Custom Night.
- Fredbear's voice lines were originally intended for Freddy Fazbear, as seen on Kellen Goff's [second FNaF Show interview].
