汗水を垂らすんだ、ENA! その調子で頑張ってくれ。(English translation: Sweat that shirt ENA! Keep up the good work!)
~ Froggy encouraging ENA to keep up her work.

Froggy is the deuteragonist of the 2025 surreal adventure game ENA: Dream BBQ.

He is ENA's coworker and best friend, whom he embarks on a journey to seek out the Boss with. A boisterous but competent worker, he serves mainly as the game's comic relief and a foil to ENA's more erratic personality. Like several of the NPCs in-game, Froggy doesn't speak English, with his language of choice instead being Japanese.

He is voiced by Buchao.

Why isn't he heroic or villainous?[]

  • Just like ENA, Froggy's motivations for targeting the Boss are too enigmatic to label as heroic or villainous. Additionally, the phrases he uses to describe his objective may simply be metaphors for something else, seeing as he's shocked by ENA making more explicit euphemisms of killing the Boss.
  • While pretty nice and helpful to ENA, he doesn't really do anything heroic, spending most of the first chapter sitting around.

Appearance[]

Froggy appears to be a white-skinned man wearing a black frog costume that possesses large, bulging eyes and a white outline. He wears a brown tie on the costume, a gray loincloth, a purple skirt, black shin wraps and green-beige geta sandals. Froggy's shading resembles the high contrast one of ukiyo-e ink prints, hence his black and white coloration.

Personality[]

As a foil to ENA's capricious nature, Froggy is a determined and hard-working worker, being steadfast at following the rules whenever possible and getting the job done. He is rather adamant at maintaining professionalism in the workplace, chastising ENA for turning up late and being unprofessional. Froggy also values ENA displaying good behaviour at work no matter the way she acts, remarking that her demand to know more about her job is rather proactive despite her rude tone. Likewise, Froggy can be rather impatient with others, expressing frustration at dealing with Dratula, especially since he keeps repeating his name and annoying him.

Despite his mostly serious character, Froggy can be rather mischievous as, after ENA's conversation with the Receptionist, he calls to tell her about his eavesdropping and pulls some funny faces. Additionally, while rather arrogant, he isn't very smart, as evidenced by his lack of knowledge about beings such as the genies and his inability to recognise ENA's being forced to go to the Bathroom rather than trying to avoid work. Froggy also seems to have a fun-loving side as, if ENA calls him via his secret phone number, he offers to play chess and go drinking with her after work if she focuses on her job.

Biography[]

ENA: Dream BBQ[]

Chapter 1: Lonely Door[]

The chapter opens with Froggy calling out to ENA to wake up, prompting the player to adjust their audio and visual settings. After leaving the Red Outworld and entering the Hub, ENA sees Froggy and Dratula arguing. Meanie ENA demands to find out where the Boss is, to which Dratula claims he is him. Froggy, however, quickly calls him out, so Dratula admits his true identity. Froggy is exasperated with Dratula's constant theatrics, getting even more confused when ENA tries to make a sales pitch to him. Meanie ENA takes over and demands to get back to work, so Froggy commends her proactivity and tells her that he managed to interrogate Dratula on the Boss's location, though her tardiness means they have less time to work. ENA asks to review the job description, so Froggy obliges; he and ENA are supposed to find the Boss, who's their greatest "work target" so far, and they are supposed to "aim for his gut". He's learnt that the Boss is hiding out on a nearby island, but just as Froggy can continue, his allergies begin acting up from the smoke surrounding the area. Thus, he asks of ENA to check with the Receptionist on the way to turn off the tobacco smoke in the area.

After a rude but informative exchange with the Receptionist, ENA is called by Froggy, who informs her that he managed to eavesdrop on the conversation and is fascinated by the news of the genies, seeing as he's never heard of them before. However, as the smoke is making his feet hurt, he can't follow her and thus urges ENA to quickly proceed with her job. When ENA arrives in the Uncanny Streets after entering the Lonely Door, Froggy calls her, remarking that information on the genies is unusually scarce. ENA offers to do some snooping around but suddenly mentions a "bathroom", which Froggy mistakes as her trying to get out of work. He allows a short toilet break but warns against wasting time.

From there, Froggy remains mostly absent from the story unless ENA finds his phone number in the desert, upon which he'll ask her to get to work so they can hang out later. He will call her later in the story, but the exact time and circumstances he calls in depend on the route ENA is taking in the story:

  • If ENA goes to the Purge event, Froggy will call her as she arrives at the queue, chastising her for going to a party at work. He warns ENA that she could die in the event and tells her he won't pick up whatever work she leaves behind if she perishes.
  • If ENA ascends to the Orb, she will get a call from Froggy just as the vines begin absorbing her. He is annoyed that ENA is still at the bathroom and when she begins to get possessed and speak gibberish, Froggy is exasperated at her "confessing her sins on the toilet".

Whatever the case, ENA traverses the Bathroom and manages to shut off the smoke with the genie, Theodora's help. She re-arrives in the Uncanny Streets, which have begun to decay, when Froggy calls her again to make sure she's done with her business. He thanks ENA for shutting off the smoke and warns her that the Lonely Door is closing, urging her to make haste. Unfortunately, ENA arrives just as the door shuts and is trapped inside.

During the post credits scene, Dratula is seen annoying Froggy in the main hub when a mannequin suddenly starts mutating, startling the duo. ENA eventually respawns from it, causing Froggy to tell her to stop being so unprofessional as "people will get the wrong idea".

Trivia[]

  • Just like ENA, Froggy could get moved to the Heroes or Villains Wiki if his motivation for seeking out the boss is elaborated on.
  • Fitting of his frog theming, Froggy croaks when he coughs and his dialtone sounds like croaking. He also levitates and emits a bright light when calling ENA, implying that he could be talking via telepathy.
  • Froggy slightly resembles the Brick Frog from Temptation Stairway. Both characters are based on frogs and have similar white outlines on their bodies. Despite this, they are stated to be unrelated.
  • Froggy appears to be a Season 2 parallel to Moony. Both have a similar name structure of a word having a "y" at the end, (In Froggy's case, it being "g and y") and are arrogant deuteragonists who accompany Ena in their respective seasons.
  • Froggy's name was first revealed through the name of a piece of merchandise on Joelgc.com.
  • In one line, Froggy bets the Genies are the "banana-smoking" types. This is a reference to the dialogue involving Mariya and Gabo in Temptation Stairway.
  • Froggy's remark on the smoke making his feet hurt may be a reference to the biology of real frogs: frogs can breathe through their skin, allowing them to absorb atmospheric toxins that way. As Froggy's feet are where most of his uncovered skin is, he could be absorbing toxins in the cigarette smoke that way, making his feet hurt.
  • According to his voice actor Buchao, Froggy's mannerisms and personality were based off comic relief characters in old Japanese detective/private eye dramas.
