Gaismagorm is an Elder Dragon first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, where it appears as the main antagonist. They are mysterious subterranean dragons that are the true masters of the Qurio, using them to leech energy from other monsters to feed themselves. Furthermore, its nesting habits are incredibly destructive as it digs massive pits to live in, one of which nearly destroyed the kingdom of Elgado in the past. Fortunately, Gaismagorm is kept in check by its arch-rival Malzeno, which regularly hijacks the Qurio and prevents it from gaining enough energy to surface.

Physiology[]

The enormous Elder Dragon Gaismagorm is comparable to Gogmazios in size and construction, however it appears that Gaismagorm walks more like a pseudowyvern. Using its front legs and enormous forearms, which seem to have been modified from its wings like those of Gore Magala and Shagaru Magala, it crawls along with what appear to be vestigial back legs. Because of the extreme dexterity of these forearms, it can effortlessly scale steep surfaces and even grasp and throw objects at opponents. With five spikes at the end, its tail is thick and large.

With two horns, beady yellow eyes, and a mouth that functions as a special kind of "split mouth" with four blue folding segments that emerge from the jaw—the bottom two of which have hooks that help it when scooping up large amounts of matter—Gaismagorm has a robust, angular head in comparison to its body. The body of the Gaismagorm is covered in thick ridged plating, with massive center spikes around the shoulder area. It also has a barbed tongue. It has vents along its body to release energy it has received from the Qurio, which are viewed as "flames" that it utilizes to intensify its attacks and move ahead. To protect the vents, it can also cover them with sharp red Qurio crystals.

The Qurio themselves constantly swarm about their host, fiercely protecting it. Gaismagorm's vents, which emanate crimson, feather-like protrusions when the blue areas of its body turn red, will release the crystallized Qurio when it is angry. Its vents will continuously burst with flames if it is further enraged.

Abilities[]

Similar to Malzeno, Gaismagorm is the Qurio's real host and has a symbiotic relationship with them, obtaining energy from the life force they steal from their victims. It can use the energy they produce to carry out a number of attacks, including sending explosive fireballs from its mouth or any of the vents lining its arms, propelling its entire body forward in a manner akin to Magnamalo, firing beams that infuse into the ground to cause aftershocks, giving its physical attacks explosive impacts, and launching energy into the air to create a field-wide effect where pieces of explosive red crystal fall from the sky. Additionally, it has the ability to actively control the Qurio to swarm targets, create explosive clusters, or even crystallize into an armor around its body, which it can then remove when enraged to launch additional energy strikes.

Gaismagorm when outside of the Quiro is incredibly enormous and strong. It can tunnel and climb, toss big rocks, block strikes, or smash adversaries with strong blows because to its surprisingly dexterous use of its massive limbs. Additionally, it can roar so loudly that hunters in the area can be physically hurt and blown away, as well as inhale with enough force to attract enemies or absorb more Qurio for energy. Additionally, Gaismagorm is strong enough to combat the hunter or hunters without showing any signs of injury, even after being impaled by three Dragonators—the last of which is explosive—and to withstand multiple more during the battle while just slightly faltering from every one.

Behavior[]

Known exclusively in myth as the Archdemon of the Abyss, Gaismagorm is an underground Elder Dragon that is said to have existed since ancient times. In order for the Qurio to feed on the local monster populations, it burrows underground until it finds a good nesting location, after which it excavates a massive hole in the earth for them to emerge from. The Qurio then return with life force from the surface for Gaismagorm to absorb while it waits underground in a latent form. But it will emerge from its nest when it has sufficient energy.

The Elder Dragon Gaismagorm is a devastating threat to Elgado and the kingdom because of its great power and ability to control the Qurio swarms. It is extremely hostile to all life except itself and the Qurio, and it is willing to devour and destroy everything in its path in order to satisfy its insatiable hunger and power, seemingly without thinking about the repercussions.

Gaismagorm possesses a great rivalry with the Elder Dragon Malzeno, which regularly hijacks the Qurio and uses them to feed itself. In the past, it’s recorded that a Primordial Malzeno once defeated Gaismagorm in a territorial dispute and became the new master of the Qurio. This victory didn’t come without a cost however, as this Malzeno would slowly devolve into a sinister, bloodthirsty monster, becoming the Citadel’s tyrant encountered today. It is noted that most Malzeno suffer this fate, making Primordial Malzeno a rarity.
