The Gajau, originally known as Catfish, is an animal categorized as a fish in Monster Hunter 3 and was given a new name and classification in Monster Hunter: World.
To actively defend their habitat and keep intruders out of their region, these ferocious piscines band together.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
Being nothing more than exceptionally large catfish, Gajau are nowhere near intelligent enough to understand human morality and as such, their violent acts such as attacking the hunter are motivated purely by hunger or a defensive instinct.
Physiology[]
Gajau can be found in the Ancient Forest and Wildspire Waste around bodies of water. They can make the Gajau Boots with their supplies. Gajau's physiology includes orange dorsal fins and greenish scales. Their look is similar to that of catfish. When they first emerged in the third generation, they were categorized as fish. Gajau were formerly categorized as Piscine Wyverns in World until being reclassified as Fish with the patch applied on April 19, 2018.
Abilities and Behavior[]
One of the few fish species to target third-generation hunters is the ferocious predatory gajau. Gajau will even leap out of the water to catch prey in the sixth generation. The Gajau have the ability to leap from the water and assault land-based hunters. Gajau will slowly drag itself back into the water after landing.
Trivia[]
- As of Monster Hunter Wilds, Gajau is the only monster that's been demoted to the title of Endemic Life.
