Great Izuchi is a Bird Wyvern first introduced in Monster Hunter Rise. They are male alphas of the Izuchi species that lead small packs of their kin in battle. Thanks to their predatory natures, they serve as threats to both humans and livestock alike, necessitating their hunts if they get too close to civilisation.
Appearance[]
Great Izuchi are a comparatively small Bird Wyverns resembling dromaeosaurs. They are covered in short, bright orange feathers, possessing a ruff of white feathers around their necks and a line of white feathers running along their backs. Great Izuchis have fairly pointy heads with black snouts and tufts of white fur resembling ears, making them somewhat resemble weasels. Their bellies and distal portions of their limbs are covered in black scales. Most notably, Great Izuchi possess long, hooked claws on their index fingers and an elongated hook on their tails, both of which have a distinctly bluish tint.
Behaviour and Abilities[]
Shrewd and intelligent, a Great Izuchi's greatest strength comes from its ability to command its underlings in combat, allowing it to outmaneuvre enemies with ease and take them down. Their larger sizes also make them significantly more powerful than regular Izuchi, with their razor-sharp claws allowing them to cleave through prey and the environment alike with ease. Great Izuchi are also quite agile and can perform complicated strikes to dazzle and confuse prey.
Great Izuchis serve as the leaders of their packs, being responsible for defending their territory and securing food for their subordinates. They are always accompanied by the two most talented Izuchi in the pack and together, they hunt down small prey such as Gargwas, occasionally harvesting vegetable matter such as fruit or fungi with their sickle-like tails when meat is scarce. In battle, Great Izuchi prefer to send out their subordinates first before entering the fray. They tend not to pick fights with other monsters but become significantly more aggressive during the mating season.
