The Great Jagras are a species that appears in the fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter: World. They are Fanged Wyverns and members of the Jagras species, leading a pack of their smaller kin. While relatively weak compared to other monsters, Great Jagras are still hunted as their gluttonous appetites may endanger the lives of humans venturing into its territory.
Appearance[]
The Great Jagras has a lot in common with iguanas. Its underside is blue, and its yellow scales have orange highlights. Additionally, it has a noticeable mane of hair that resembles dreadlocks. With its enormous stomach, the monster can devour whole prey, which causes its belly to swell significantly. When its stomach is swollen, it will spew up everything it has eaten if it sustains too much harm. Sliding paths are known to be left behind by the Great Jagras. The monster may be injured in the head, front limbs, and belly.
Abilities[]
As a large prey specialist, the Great Jagras is a relatively fast and agile monster, being capable of rushing down prey with ease before delivering a fatal bite with its powerful jaws. Instead of consuming the carcass slowly however, the Great Jagras instead swallows it whole, increasing its bulk and size significantly. While this behaviour is often used to cache kills, it can be used offensively as it allows the Great Jagras to crush opponents. When threatened the Great Jagras will vomit out gastric acid from its belly to weaken hunters.
Behavior[]
Great Jagras are known to be gluttonous predators that specialise in taking on large prey such as Aptonoth, swallowing them whole and slowly digesting them. While such a large carcass can be consumed completely by them for enough nutrients for months, Great Jagras often only partially digest these remains and after receiving their fill, vomit out the remaining morsels for their packs to eat. These morsels often contain useful biochemicals and microflora from the Great Jagras's body that enrich the pack's health. Despite this, Great Jagras have been known to eat their subordinates when extremely hungry, and have even been known to pick on stronger monsters out of sheer hunger.
Despite such voracious reputations, Great Jagras rarely become aggressive on sight, only retaliating when attacked or when injured in a fight against another monster. While they share a choice in prey with Anjanath and Rathalos, the latter two often prey on Great Jagras, making it the unfortunate victim of intraguild predation. Furthermore, monsters like Deviljho will often attack them during hunts and even use them as weapons against the hunter.
