Gypceros is a species that appears in the fantasy videogame Monster Hunter. They are highly intelligent Bird Wyverns that possess numerous predator hindering abilities, from toxic spit to the ability to generate stunning flashes from their crests. As Gypceros are attracted to shiny objects and have been known to steal food and supplies from people. hunters are often called in to combat these pesky monsters.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
Gypceros are animals that don't possess a moral compass, acting only out of survival instincts.
Physiology[]
The Gypceros is a bulky, heavy Bird Wyvern covered in a blueish-grey pelt, noted for its rubbery texture. Its wings are fairly small, possessing a beige wing membrane, while its tail ends in a knob-like end and is a similar colour. The Gypceros's bill is incredibly odd, possessing a hammer-like extrusion on its upper jaw, while its mouth is filled with wonky, sharp teeth. This extrusion is used to strike the anvil-like crest on its head. The Gypceros's cheek bones are rather prominent, posessing several small spikes. It has slit pupils and orange sclerae.
Abilities[]
A rather bulky wyvern, the Gypcero's weight allows it to charge over hunters and small foes, knocking them aside with ease. Its rubbery hide not only resists electricity, but also allows most blunt force attacks to bounce right off its body. The Gypceros's flesh is also highly saturated with a substance known as Dash Extract, granting the monster incredible stamina. Its rubbery tail is also surprisingly extendable and can be used as a flail.
The Gypceros possesses a poison sac that, compared to that of other monsters, is rather weak, producing a rather mild toxin. The Gypceros makes up for this weakness by producing incredible amounts of poisonous mucus, allowing it to dribble a seemingly endless amount of it from its mouth, poisoning anybody who touches it. If all else fails, the Gypceros can use its beak to hammer the Light Crystal-infused crest on its head, producing a blinding flash of light that stuns everybody in the vicinity. As a result of using this counter attack, the Gypceros is also immune to stuns via bright light.
Behavior[]
Inquisitive and timid, the Gypceros tends to shy away from humans, preferring to stick to their own territories. However, they are known to approach and attack humans that are holding shiny materials in their hands, mistaking them for delicious insects. In battle, the Gypceros exhibits a keen intellect, strategically stealing items to hinder a hunter's fight with it. When all else fails, it will play dead, hoping to fool foes into leaving it alone or opening themselves up to a surprise attack.
As an inhabitant of swamplands, Gypceros face two rivalling monsters: Khezu and Nerscylla. To combat the Khezu, the Gypceros uses its rubbery hide to resist the Flying Wyvern's electrical attacks. However, this causes it to be targeted by Nerscylla: as the monster also feuds with Khezu, it is known to skin Gypceros that it successfully kills, wearing their rubbery hides as protection from a Khezu's electrical attacks.
Habitat[]
Though it is infrequently spotted in broad grasslands and rainforests, Gypceros are primarily located in marshes and marshlands. In the Forbidden Lands, they have been witnessed season-round in the Oilwell Basin and Iceshard Cliffs, appearing in the Windward Plains during the Fallow.
