Khezu are a species that are from the science fantasy videogame Monster Hunter. They are a species of troglodytic Flying Wyvern infamous for their eerie appearances and ability to utilise electricity, which they use to paralyse prey and eat them alive. Feared for their penchant of eating anything large enough to fit in their mouths, Khezu are often hunted to keep civilians safe from their hungry jaws.
Physiology[]
Khezus are relatively small Flying Wyverns covered in a white, rubbery hide, with veins and arteries dotting their exterior. Khezu wings are relatively short, possessing two stubby fingers at the front. They have four, frog-like toes on each foot which terminate in suction cups. A Khezu's tail also terminates in a bizarre, suction-cup like orifice which helps it stick to walls. As cave living wyverns, Khezu are completely blind, with their eyes being reduced to nothing more than empty pits in their skin. Their only significant feature is their large, toothy, and circular mouth which is outlined with large red lips, while their nostrils are located slightly above. Khezus have extremely stretchy necks, which they use to grab distant prey.
Abilities[]
A competent troglodytic predator, the Khezu has numerous traits that help it to sneak up on and dispatch its prey. Its rubbery hide allows most blows to bounce off it harmlessly, while the suction cups on its feet and legs allow it to scale cave walls with the utmost stealth. Its long white neck is also surprisingly powerful, allowing it to knock hunters off their feet. The Khezu's eyes have reduced to nothing thanks to their relative uselessness in the darkness, so they sniff out prey with their large nostrils before incapacitating them with a loud roar. Like most Flying Wyverns, the Khezu is capable of flight, though its tiny wings make the distance of its flights quite limited.
The Khezu possesses a Thunder Sac in its body: an organ capable of generating electrical charges that a monster utilises. While not very strong compared to other monsters, the Khezu's Thunder Sac is capable of generating electrical discharges and jolts powerful enough to immobilise or stun prey.
Behavior[]
Despite living in caves, Khezu leave when they wish or when there is no longer enough food within. Although Khezu are more vulnerable to bigger Wyverns like Tigrex outside of caverns, they have an advantage inside of them. Not only are they unaffected by darkness, but they can also attack from above by clinging to the ceiling. In battle, Khezu often stun prey with a loud screech before unleashing electrical discharges to stun prey. This allows the Khezu to quickly paralyse prey, enabling its bizarre and disturbing method of reproduction; Khezus are hermaphrodites, meaning that they possess both male and female sex organs. As such, after mating or self-fertilisation, a Khezu will seek out prey and dispatch it, either killing it or permanently paralysing it. It then lays its whelps in the unfortunate monster's body, allowing them to consume it from the inside out and be sheltered from the elements by the body's warmth. Whelps laid in living hosts will typically avoid vital organs, allowing their hosts to stay alive for as long as possible.
Habitat[]
Active water sources are frequently found close to a Khezu's habitat; some explain this by saying that the water is good for carrying electricity into their food, while others conjecture that the Khezu may require the moisture for their wet skin. These regions consist of the Frozen Seaway and the Swamps.
Trivia[]
- Khezu is unique among the other monsters as it has absolutely no background music whatsoever playing during its battle, with music only being heard if it’s fought alongside another monster. As such, a recurring joke in the Monster Hunter community is people ironically appraising Khezu’s non-existent theme as good to listen to and beautiful.
