The Kirin are an Elder Dragon species that appears in the fantasy videogame, Monster Hunter. They are elusive and shy monsters that until recently, were believed to be completely mythical creatures. As Kirin possess a keen control over electricity and will attack viciously if spooked, hunters are sent out to stop them if they are spotted near civilisation to prevent further destruction from happening.
Why aren’t they heroic or villainous?[]
- They are mainly minding their own business until the hunter comes.
Physiology[]
Despite possessing an ungulate-like build, Kirin is covered in small blue scales and has a leonine or dragon-like snout. Its feet are digitigrade, with hoof-like claws. Kirin has a mane of white hair, tufts of said hair on its legs and tail, which is somewhat short. the Kirin's most distinctive feature is its long, azure horn which protrudes from its forehead. This horn has a spiralling pattern similar to a unicorn's and is the source of its electrical powers.
Abilities[]
Lightning may be called upon by Kirin to assault its enemies or the surrounding region. It has been demonstrated that the Kirin may harden its hide by enveloping itself in lightning when angered or threatened. With extremely few physical assaults, lightning bolts are Kirin's primary method of defeating enemies. Kirin's extraordinary agility allows it to almost run circles around its opponent, getting close enough to use its horn to scald an adversary before darting off to be ready for another attack. Kirin is incredibly agile, with the ability to sprint and leap great distances quickly.
Behavior[]
Even though Kirin gives off the impression of being a calm, quiet force, it is very capable of striking its enemies with a tremendous hail of lightning strikes. It tends to be rather reclusive, avoiding humans and straying away when spotted. However, some individuals are known to be much more aggressive: the first Kirin ever found zapped the hunter that saw it to ash instantly. Fortunately, most Kirin seem very docile and can be approached without hostile reaction, only retaliating when hurt.
While Kirin ecology is poorly understood thanks to their elusive natures, it is known that they are herbivores, feeding on the flora of the Coral Highlands. Additionally, they are attacked by the Rajang very frequently, who rip off their horns and eat them to unlock their electrical powers. Thankfully, Kirin are spared by these Fanged Beasts after their horns are removed, and seem to be able to grow them back.
Habitat[]
The Tower, Snowy Mountains, Swamp, Old Swamp, Battleground, Old Jungle, Everwood, Jurassic Frontier, and Coral Highlands are among the locations where Kirin may be found.
