The Kulve Taroth is an Elder Dragon first introduced in Monster Hunter: World. She is a reclusive and vain dragon that dwells deep in caches of metal ores, adorning herself with metal armor forged from the deposits surrounding it. Thanks to the mystique surrounding this species, hunters are often sent to analyse their coats and maybe even seize some treasures from their adobes.
Why aren’t they heroic or villainous?[]
- They are very docile even when hunters kept on attacking them but become aggressive when vulnerable.
Appearance[]
Huge and resembling a lizard, Kulve Taroth is a dragon with an exquisite golden cloak. Her entire body is covered with this mantle, which has a lengthy trailing segment down the length of her huge tail and the appearance of big blocky scales on her back. Massive spiral horns are Kulve Taroth's most distinguishing characteristic. When the gold plating is taken off of these horns, they resemble lapis lazuli. Kulve Taroth's scales are gold and black with spots of emerald without the mantle. Her eyes have horizontal pupils resembling those of a frog's or ram's It is noted that each Kulve Taroth makes a unique coat based on the metals near it, with the New World specimen fought making a gold cloak thanks to its relative abundance.
Abilities[]
Despite being a monster that utilises the Fire element, Kulve Taroth has never been seen utilising actual, visible flames before. Instead, she exudes jets of superheated air from her body which are capable of melting masses of solid gold in mere seconds, making it capable of producing temperatures equivalent to the sun's surface. Kulve Taroth can also use her air jets to melt through walls of solid rock nearly instantly, allowing her to create massive caverns all by herself as evidenced by the existence of El Dorado. Her body also passively emits extremely high temperatures as, when enraged, Kulve Taroth's gold cloak begins to soften up.
Elemental abilities aside, Kulve Taroth possesses supernatural degrees of strength, durability and stamina. Like other Elder Dragons, she is incapable of ever getting exhausted and not only possesses the durability to resist her own unfathomably hot heat blasts, but also to survive repeated encounters with hunters. Kulve Taroth is also incredibly strong as she is capable of carrying around tonnes of gold on her back as armour and still walk around normally. When this armour falls off, Kulve Taroth proves to be surprisingly agile and fast, being capable of performing leaps and bounds in rapid succession to strike at hunters.
Behaviour[]
Kulve Taroth is normally a passive and docile monster, being content to watch hunters and only attacking very rarely. However, as the first phase progresses, she will slowly become more hostile and begin to move about the area. This hostility reaches its peak when Kulve Taroth's mantle is broken off, causing her to fly into a rage and attack with full hostility. Despite this, Kulve Taroth will often flee when given the chance, such as when insufficient damage is dealt to them.
However, the Arch-Tempered individuals of the Kulve Taroth species show a markedly different behaviour, being incredibly aggressive and hostile. The Arch-Tempered individual found in El Dorado was known to be much more belligerent than her regular cousin, using heatwaves more often and more aggressive attack patterns. Furthermore, this Kulve Taroth was known to enter a Furied State when her coat was destroyed, remaining in a constant burning rage that greatly enhanced all her powers.
Thanks to being such a rare and enigmatic species, Kulve Taroth's ecology is poorly understood. However, it is known that her burrowing habits are what allows life to flourish in the normally sterile Caverns, with her constant digging unearthing organic compounds and nutrients to sustain the ecosystem. It's likely that Kulve Taroth eats minerals like most other Elders and could even consume solid bioenergy, seeing as the bursts of bioenergy from Zorah Magdaros and Xeno'jiva's deaths are what awoke her.
Habitat[]
Only two Kulve Taroths have ever been sighted in the Caverns of El Dorado, where they clad themselves in the abundant raw gold found there, as well as the molten weapons of hunters that attempted to fell them. Even then sightings of her are rare, as she frequently dwells deep in the lower recesses inaccessible to humans.
