Larinoth is a Herbivore introduced in Monster Hunter Generations. They are a rare and endangered species of monster that are classified into the Herbivore class, being distant relatives of the main Wyvern families as well. While typically docile and calm, they can prove to be formidable foes for any predator that tries to eat them.
Why aren't they heroic or villainous?[]
Like most monsters, Larinoth are simple animals that aren’t intelligent enough to have concepts of morality. Furthermore, they are relatively benign and don’t commit any acts that can be seen as benevolent or malicious, making them completely neutral.
Physiology[]
In contrast to most herbivores and even many giant monsters, Larinoth is a very enormous creature. Due mostly to its incredibly long neck, it has a considerable height. With spiked plating running up the back and up to the crest on its head, the tail is rounded and resembles a club. The underside is a creamy tone, and the coating is almost completely green. Larinoth seems to have been modeled after the sauropods, a genus of long-necked dinosaurs. Its body structure is actually similar to that of the Jurassic Brachiosaurus, despite the fact that it is not based on any particular genus.
Behaviour and Abilities[]
While generally docile and peaceful towards humans, Larinoth are known to retaliate strongly when attacked, utilising their incredible mass and powerful tails to crush and pummel foes. As such, while not much of a threat towards the hunter, they have been known to repel predators such as Glavenus, with individuals of the latter species being found with broken bones resulting from scuffles with Larinoth. Larinoth are also some of the few Herbivores known to outright kill larger monsters, with young cocksure Glavenus often succumbing to this fate.
Larinoth are also highly social creatures, roaming in packs with adults protecting younger individuals in the centre of the group. They have also been known to emit strange cries from the growths on their heads, though the purpose of these social calls is currently unknown. As herbivores, Larintoth typically feed on seeds, nuts and flowers.
