~ Lumalee |
Lumalee is a character who first appeared in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He is a young Luma who has been imprisoned by Bowser and his army for a very long time.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Lumalee's past, other than the fact that it had been a prisoner of Bowser for many years, so much so that he lost so much of his former innocence and ends up becoming a nihilistic death seeker that he currently is.
After Luigi is trapped in a cage above the pool of lava, he meets Lumalee who is now making creepy comments about death being their only hope of escape since there is no other way. The Penguin King advises Luigi not to pay attention to him since he is insane despite being cute, as Lumalee states that in an insane world, it is the sane who are crazy. In another scene, he sings about life in prison being depressing and time, like hope, is an illusion. Once Cranky and his army are imprisoned, Lumalee greets them. As he is called the ray of sunshine, Lumalee replies that there is no sunshine, only darkness, which the Penguin King shouts for him to stop talking like that. Later on, when Kamek tells them that they will be off to the forced wedding between Bowser and Princess Peach, to be the sacrifices for their reception, all of the prisoners are horrified, except for Lumalee who is relieved. During the battle at the wedding, Lumalee and the prisoners were being lowered into the lava to their horror, only Lumalee was excited. However, once Donkey Kong raises the cages, they were relieved and Lumalee is flustered as they were finally set free.
Just before the end credits roll, Lumalee appears and tells the viewers that it's a happy ending or was it, since it's over now and it's them and the infinite void, before giving it a proper sendoff by happily playing the saxophone to the tune of the iconic "Super Mario Bros." and winking.
