| “ | Hey, it's me, Mario… | „ |
| ~ Mario's deadpan, only words in the series, much to Gumball's dismay when he realizes he's not the real Mario. |
Mario, also referred to as Uncle Mario, is a minor character in the animated series The Amazing World of Gumball.
He is a parody of the iconic Nintendo video game character by the same name. He serves as the uncle of Ocho Tootmorsel and the titular character in "The Uncle," his only appearance.
In the episode, main character Gumball Watterson tries to befriend Ocho after (implicitly) assuming his uncle is the famous game mascot. Ocho had mentioned his uncle embodying similar traits to the original, such as being a plumber, enjoying racing, being scared of ghosts, and enjoying stars, dinosaurs and princesses. Due to Ocho's eccentric personality, Gumball is put through a series of grueling trials to see if the latter is trustworthy enough to meet his uncle. Gumball persists because he wants to meet Mario.
When he finally does meet Ocho and Mario during their agreed upon time to play golf, he realizes that it is not actually the real Mario, much to his disappointment.
Why Isn't He Heroic or Villainous?[]
- Although he is a parody of a heroic character, he does nothing remotely heroic himself, as the only thing he is seen doing is playing golf, which is kind of the point.
Appearance[]
Mario basically looks like the original Mario, but completely lacking in everything that makes him appealing.
He is a sweaty, rotund, Caucasian, adult human male. His head is very large and round, disproportionately bigger than the rest of the body, and has a fat chin. He has a bald top with a few strands of hair and brown hair on the back. Mario has a big red nose, small, droopy eyes with bags underneath, pronounced frown lines, and a large pink blush on the forehead and cheeks. He also has a mustache formed by small pieces of hair.
He’s wears a red long-sleeve shirt under navy blue overalls with yellow buttons. He also wears clunky, exaggerated grey sneakers with some red designs on them. His body is short and round, with small arms and legs compared to his massive head and torso.
He's also surrounded by flies, implicitly due to his poor hygiene. Gumball also mentions that Mario flashed his rear each time he picked up the golf ball while they played, and that it looked like "a huge purple apricot stuffed into a cheap pair of polyester pants."
Personality[]
Very little is known about Mario's personality. It is stated that he tends to his plumbing business during the week and races during the weekend. He's also interested in golf, stars, dinosaurs, and princesses, but he's afraid of ghosts.
His defining trait is that he is completely uncharismatic, entirely unlike the original Mario, and speaks in a gravelly, deep voice. He also is unhygienic and appears to have unhealthy eating habits as well. That said, he is still friendly to Gumball upon meeting him.
