In the film, he entered the pits after being the first racer to get zapped by the lemons' machine during the Tokyo race. In that race, Darrell's pit was between Lightning McQueen's and Nigel Gearsley's. Brent Mustangburger remarks, "Very unusual, Darrell. He's been so consistent all year." He is the fourth car to be damaged in the Italy race after crashing with Shu Todoroki and being struck by Max Schnell. But he got cured, and he was allowed to compete in London races. He was in third place when the race began. Then he went to Radiator Springs to race.

In Planes, Miguel makes a brief cameo via a Porto Corsa vintage poster, that shows him, Francesco Bernoulli, and Raoul ÇaRoule, on Dusty Crophopper's wall in his garage.

Cars: Fast as Lightning[]
In Cars: Fast as Lightning, Miguel is one of the racers who builds their own track at Radiator Springs to show how he can beat his rivals. He is unlocked after beating him as Boost, and in doing so, the player also unlocks his track and pit. He has four paint jobs available, those: Spanish Flag, Para España, ICE, and Neon Camino.

Miguel Camino is good in bullfighting bulldozers in his own country due to its flair, style, and speed as a toreador in the dozer ring that inspired a generation of young bulldozer fighters. He is empathetic, sincere, warm-hearted, and generous, and Miguel Camino is caring and self-sacrificing, often putting others' needs before their own. He also doesn't like being unwanted or unloved, and the Core Desire is to feel loved and appreciated.

- The Mattel toy version of Miguel has an error which is a red spoiler on him instead of a black one. The Disney version of him has the black spoiler.
- According to Meet the Cars, Miguel is a 2007 Grand Touring Sports SS-E Racer which is a fictional sports car that draws inspiration from various GT-style cars but is primarily based on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR which was first introduced in the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. However, the character also resembles the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, and the Chrysler Viper GTS-R GT2; both being cars that raced in 2007 and having a background history in endurance racing.
- While the exact abbreviation for "SS-E" is unknown, it may be a type of sport/performance package that's usually given to cars as a performance option.
- Miguel Camino's full name is a reference to the Chevy El Camino. "Camino" is a Spanish word, which can be translated as "road."
- The black and red designs on Miguel's body are Miró-inspired and are also based on the flag of Spain (with the Spanish coat of arms on the hood).
- For some reason, his Mattel diecast has a red spoiler, while his Disney Store diecast correctly has the black spoiler. As of 2024 it remains the inaccurate color.

- Miguel Camino is a 2007 Grand Touring Sports SS-E Racer, a Pixar in-house design that draws inspiration from various vehicles but is primarily based on a 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10-ACR. While this particular Viper hasn't been seen at European endurance races, it's track-focused variant, the Viper SRT-10 ACR-X, has been used in racing leagues such as the Dodge Viper Cup Series and the Trans Am Championship. The character also bears resemblance to the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe GT3 and the Chrysler Viper GTS-R GT1.
- While Vipers are typically powered by V10 engines, Miguel is powered by a DOHC V8 with 570 HP. Though there are various LMGT1 and LMGT2 cars with a DOHC V8, Miguel's engine sounds very similar to the one used in the Nissan GT-R GT1.

- His name is a pun on the Chevrolet El Camino. Funnily and interestingly enough, his "road" in Spanish, and such thing didn't officially exist in the universe until Andrew Vrooman from Cars 3.

- His Polish name, "Miguel Alcantara", is a reference to the city Alcántara in Spain, in the province of Cáceres.
- Based on an older concept design, there was a originally a Ferrari GT2 based on the Ferrari F430 racecar, similar to Michael Schumacher. However, this character was scrapped and was replaced by the Spanish GT2 champion, Miguel Camino.
