Biography[]
After a lack of good ideas, Walter's associates Morris and Eugene Dupree suggest bringing in Miles Finch, a famous children's author, in an attempt to create a better idea for a children's book. Walter agrees, and the three men call Miles to see if he wanted to help them. He replies that he will give them only five hours of his time.
The next day, Miles arrives at the Greenway Press corporate headquarters in the Empire State Building. Right when Miles is about to pitch his idea, Buddy barges in to profess to Walter his newfound love for Jovie, and notices Miles. Noticing his short size, as a result mistaking him for an elf, Buddy asks how Miles left the North Pole. Miles takes this the wrong way and thinks Buddy is insulting him. Miles tries to intimidate and show his superiority by yelling about how he gets more action in a week than Buddy does in his entire life, and that he owns houses in Los Angeles, Paris, and Vail (each one with a 70-inch plasma screen TV).
After being dared to call him an elf one more time, Buddy takes this literally and whispers to everyone around him that Miles is an angry elf. Unable to control his temper, Miles jumps on the table and lets out a growl whilst charging at Buddy, then he brutally attacks him. Holding him in a headlock on the table, Miles dares Buddy to call him an elf one final time and Buddy again takes this literally and tells Miles he is an elf. Miles violently flips him off the table. Walter tries to explain Buddy's misunderstanding, but Miles angrily ignores him and storms out of the building without pitching his book idea. Getting up, Buddy, still thinking Miles is an elf, claims he must be one from the South Pole. Livid, Walter snaps at Buddy for ruining the meeting and harshly disowns him, furiously ordering him to get out of his life.
In the midst of everything, Miles had forgotten his notebook, which Morris and Eugene find and read. They observe that it was chock full of genius ideas.
