Sesame Street's "Elmo's World" segment features Mr. Noodle. Mr. Noodle is a quiet figure who lives in a separate world within Elmo's World that is reachable from behind Shade. Mr. Noodle is regularly asked by Elmo to answer a question or show how to complete a task. He pantomimes in response, but he always makes a mistake or disregards Elmo's directions. Mr. Noodle typically works it out with repeated prompting and trial and error.

Mr. Noodle, who debuted in Season 30 alongside Elmo's World, was succeeded in Season 31 by his brother, Mr. Noodle. The two Noodles then alternated or occasionally made appearances together, as in the episodes "Families" and "Games." Ms. Noodle, Mr. Noodle's sister, has also been spotted alongside him in a few specials and episodes.

Since Elmo's World returned in Season 47, Mr. Noodle (played by Bill Irwin) has continued to appear, sometimes alongside the family poodle, Schmoodle, and other times with other Noodle siblings.

In the program Sesame Street's 50th Anniversary Celebration, Mr. Noodle appeared outside of Elmo's World. He joined the human cast during the musical song "Welcome!" (in which he plays the last trumpet note).
