Mr. Smiley is the main antagonist of the Dhar Mann video "Kid Makes Teacher Quit Job, What Happens Next Is Shocking", and the secondary antagonist of “Poor Boy Has Tap Water For Lunch“. He is a drill sergeant who temporarily replaces Mr. Jasper as a "teacher" until he came back. He is supposed to be based on/inspired by Sergeant Sam Rodrick from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode: "Mrs. Puff, You're Fired".
He is portrayed by Moses Mathew Jackson.
Why isn't he heroic or villainous?[]
- He isn't a hero due to not committing any heroic acts.
- He isn't a villain as in his first appearance, he is just a strict drill sergeant. In his second appearance, all he does is steal kids food which is only a minor crime, and it only resulted in him being fired rather than arrested.
Appearance[]
Mr. Smiley is an African-American male with a green shirt, black pants, and gray, shiny-looking hair that is almost bald.
Biography[]
Since Elliot took a battery out of Mr. Jasper's remote, Mr. Jasper was going to put on a video about cold-blooded creatures, but Elliot connects his phone to Mr. Jasper's TV, and puts on a Dhar Mann video called "Boys vs. Girls In Prank War", the class starts laughing, and Mr. Jasper trips over the TV plug, causing him to get injured. Elliot was going to prank Mr. Jasper again with ketchup by putting it into his drawer, but Mr. Smiley came along as a substitute "teacher" and drill sergeant, and starts making new rules such as no back talking, no gum chewing, no note-passing, and no nose-picking. Mr. Smiley then reaches into the drawer, but gets ketchup all over his face because of Elliot. He then runs to the latter's desk, and Elliot screams because he got caught, and Mr. Smiley gets mad at Elliot and makes him do 100 push-ups and planks. He then tells the rest of the class not to mess with him and to take out their science notebooks.
Later, the Coach tells the class that there will be no dodgeball, and Mr. Smiley comes along again, calls Elliot "Private Alvarez", and tells him to do 10 laps, but the latter talks back to Mr. Smiley saying that he's not his teacher and he can't tell him what to do, causing the drill sergeant to make everyone do 25 laps all because of him.
Elliot then comes up with a plan where he puts a snake on Mr. Smiley's book to scare him so he can leave the school for good, so Mr. Smiley gives him an "F" for his written Science test and makes the class switch their seats. Mr. Smiley then takes out his book, but he sees the snake, causing him to get scared hardly, pushing a desk and a chair out of his way, but gets angry at Elliot again. Principal Meyers then told the class that Mr. Jasper is back, but the furious drill sergeant tells the principal that Elliot still has to pay, in which he says that Elliot can talk to Mr. Jasper about it so that he can tell his mom Mrs. Alvarez, and Mr. Jasper gave Elliot an "A" on his history written test, but Principal Meyers told Mrs. Alvarez that Elliot has been doing pranks on Mr. Smiley so she tells Elliot that he's definitely not getting his PS5 or tablet for a long time.
Mr. Smiley also appears in the video "Poor Boy Has Tap Water For Lunch" as the secondary antagonist, where he takes on a job as a teacher to replace another teacher who had to retire for health reasons. Smiley instantly shows his greed by glaring at the cookie jar in Principal Daniel’s office, and after being offered some by her, he takes multiple cookies. Smiley then announces his name to the class and yells at them to write his name down and says his name in a weird way. Just then, he notices Joey (the titular protagonist) and his best friend Cam bumping elbows because they are left-handed and right-handed respectively but are on opposite sides of the desk, so Smiley tells Joey to "just write with his right hand".
Then Mr. Smiley started displaying an odd ability, which was to sniff for food like a dog. He saw a janitor about to throw away a pizza box. He chased after the janitor and convinced him to give him the leftover pizza. Smiley then returned to the class and told the students to eat their lunch. Cam gave Joey half of his peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which Smiley instantly noticed. After finding out it was a chunky peanut butter and jelly sandwich, he took Joey's half of the sandwich for “health and educational reasons” and Cam's half to find out “where the source came from”. He then greedily ate their sandwich like a slob.
Two days later, Smiley entered the classroom and was about to teach when he started smelling pizza from Joey's bag that Cam had given him as a gift for giving him chocolate the other day. Convincing the students to go outside of the class and play a game, Smiley then began sniffing for the pizza and stole it as well as the bag. Later that day, Mr. Smiley filled in for Mrs. Stevens, who had an emergency, so he went to the auditorium to watch over the children auditioning for the school play “Oliver.” As one boy was auditioning, Smiley began sniffing pizza again and saw a pizza man walk by; with that, Smiley decided they should break for lunch despite just starting.
As the students were eating, Cam gave Joey some of his sandwich, but Smiley made up an excuse that Joey couldn’t eat other kids' food and had to bring his own food, so he took him and ordered Joey to bring the sandwich with him. He told Joey that he wasn’t auditioning unless he had his lunch, afterward kicking him out and throwing the sandwich in his suitcase, which included the pizza. Mrs. Stevens showed up and saw him with Joey's bag (which she gave him as a gift), but he claimed he got it from last “birthday Christmas“. Soon Mrs. Stevens and the students found out about how Smiley had stolen Joey's bag and lunch (which he had been chowing down on). However, she decided to deal with him later. Once Mrs. Stevens had taken Joey away from his abusive foster mother, she, Principal Daniels, and another teacher caught Smiley stealing cookies from another kid's backpack. He was then told he was fired and was kicked out, but not before he foolishly insisted on keeping the cookies.
Personality[]
In direct contrast to his name, Mr. Smiley is an extremely strict and arrogant drill sergeant who treats the school like a military academy and heavily enforces his rules, punishing children by making them do a lot of push-ups and planks just like in military school. In spite of this however, he is shown to get scared easily when Elliot puts a fake snake on his book. He is also shown to have a short-temper, as shown when he angrily runs to Elliot's desk after getting ketchup all over his face, and forces him to do 100 push-ups and planks.
In the video after that however, Mr. Smiley is shown to be greedy and has a large obsession over food, as shown where he forces his students to give him their lunch to eat them for himself, as well as refusing to let Joey have anything even though he was poor, resulting in him getting fired as he was caught by three teachers as stated above.
Trivia[]
- He is based on Sergeant Sam Rodrick from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Mrs. Puff, You're Fired", along with Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket (1987).
