For the Sputter Stop squad, Murray Clutchburn, a race car with the number 92, used to compete in the Piston Cup Racing Series. As a part of the gold-winning Olympic relay race squad in 1984, he began his athletic career. In the 2017 Piston Cup season, Sheldon Shifter would eventually take his seat.

Biography[]
Murray began his athletic career as a member of the Olympic test track relay event team that won gold in 1984. He immediately entered mainstream professional racing and had a successful career in the Piston Cup series thanks to the Olympic momentum.
Murray participated in the Dinoco 400, the last race of the Piston Cup season, at the Motor Speedway of the South. He participated in an accident that Chick Hicks instigated involving nearly all of the participants during the race, landing on his roof and was slammed by Ralph Carlow. He managed to keep going and completed the race.
He faces numerous Next-Gen racers throughout the 2016 Piston Cup season in Cars 3. He continues to compete in the Los Angeles International Speedway before retiring and being replaced by Sheldon Shifter, a racer from the next generation.
Appearance[]
Murray Clutchburn is a Stodgey Suaver EX in Cars. Although he was shown as Stodgey Suaver EX in most of his appearances, including Cars, in Cars 3, he was given a Capitol Motors Mark II.stock car with Lightyear racing tires instead. He wears dark teal green livery with orange decorations on his doors, roof, and hood, and his eyes are blue. His hood is emblazoned with the Sputter Stop emblem, while his doors and roof are painted with the number 92. In addition, he sports a black grille, black rims, and an orange spoiler. Since Murray is now a Capitol Motors Mark II, the same model as Cal Weathers and the returning racers from Cars 3, his appearance radically alters in Cars 3. With the exception of the headlights, which now have the number 92 beneath one rather than on it, his paint job is identical to that in the first movie.
