Nac Tias was a minor character in the manga and anime, Attack on Titan. He was a member of the 104th Trainee Corps that fought during the battle of Trost District, being stationed in Squad 34 together with, Eren Yeager, Armin Arlert, Thomas Wagner, Mina Carolina and Milius Zeramuski. He would after being deployed be killed in action during the battle.

Apearance[]

Nac was young man with dark brown hair that waved to the back of his head in a sharp manner. He had big brown eyes and a long face together with a sharp jawline. He was also noticeably tall in height, towering over his fellow trainees.

He wears the standard Trainee Corps uniform with a greyish shirt underneath.

Personality[]

Nac appeared to be somewhat on the hotheaded side, repeatedly criticizing the Garrison’s vanguard lack of success against the Titans, while also being more irritated than shocked upon seeing the Titans deep advancement in the city. But he also appeared to be brave and caring, as he rushed towards Eren’s defense when he was overcome with rage and rushed towards a Titan.

Story[]

Background[]

Nac was born on June 18th somewhere in the southern parts of Wall Rose. When he was old enough, Nac joined the 104th Training Corps southern branch.

104th Training Corps arc[]

One into his training in the year 848, Nac is seen during the surveillance training mission, where the Cadets are tested to keep their vigilance in check during times of peace. He’s assigned together with Thomas Wagner as the group leader, Mikasa Ackerman being the record keeper, and the other members being Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, Annie Leonhart, Daz, and Samuel. He’s seen in the background while Thomas discuses with Mikasa about the best route to go towards so they can reach their objective. Later during sunset, Daz mysteriously loses his ODM gear, despite the fact that he’s positive where he put it. Nac and his group are seen inspecting an old campfire and wagon tracks, with Reiner assuming that it must’ve been brigands who intended to steal their ODM gear so they can sell it on the black market. They decide to team-up with Marco’s group and then go back to their base.

During dawn, Nac’s group successfully meets with the other team, after having seen a smoke signal from Armin Arlert. Annie and Mikasa apprehend the remaining two brigands who were bothering Marco's group and Daz gets his ODM gear back, hugging it passionately as Nac stands together with Samuel at a campfire.

At some unknown point during the three training years, he was seen in a hand-to-hand combat training together with Jean Kirstein.

Battle of Trost District arc[]

In 850, Nac’s training is over, and he is ranked outside of the top 10.

Just before the day where Nac and the others can select in what branch they want to be in. The Colossal Titan appears and breaches the outer gate of Trost District, causing Titans to start flooding into the city. Nac and his fellow trainees are order to receive intel from their commanders in the HQ. Captain Kitz Woermann explains that the Titans have already advanced towards the middle parts of the city, that the vanguard squad has already been wiped out, and that the Armored Titan can appear at any point in time to take down the inner gate. This frightens Nac, knowing the grim repercussions if Wall Rose would fall. Nac and the other Trainees are put in the middle guard and are then divided into squads, with Nac being put into squad 34, together with Thomas, Eren, Armin, Mina and Milieus.

Nac is standing on the rooftops waiting to be deployed, despite the grim situation, he and his team are noticably encouraged for the fight. They get the orders to move out and as the squad advances, they notice that Titans have quickly reached the middle parts of the city. Irritating Nac from the vanguard’s lack of succus despite being their superiors. Out of nowhere, a jumping Abnormal Titan launches itself to the squad and as Nac and the others are capable of evading it, Thomas is caught by it, and is stuck in its mouth. Nac watches in horror as Thomas is swallowed whole by the Titan. This angers Eren Yeager to the point where he furiously launches towards the Titan to avenge his friend.

Manga version[]

In the orginal manga version, Nac watches Eren trying to go for the Titan, but he is immediately stopped by an agile quadrupedal Titan that bites off his leg, stranding him. Everyone looks in shock and Armin falls to his knees, but Nac tells Armin to get up as it’s too dangerous. They notice that the quadrupedal Titan is coming for them, so they all expect for Armin attempt to fight it. Is proven to be unsuccessful, the Titan moves Mina’s wire causing to slam into a building and be caught by a smaller Titan. Nac and Milius are bother grabbed by the quadrupedal Titanm and while Milius is devoured, the Titan squeezes Nac body so hard that his lower brutally explodes, killing him.

Anime version[]

In the anime version, Nac and the others follow Eren in his attempt to take down the Titan who killed Thomas. While they are flying through the streets, Eren is then attacked by a quadrupedal Titan, who bites off his leg, shocking Nac and the others. Completely out of nowhere, a large Titan appears out of different street and attemps to grab Nac, only for it to swat him out of the air in a bloody mess, killing him instantly.

Nac’s death is in both adaptational works eventually reported by Armin as he states the death of his squamates.

Whatever was left of Nac’s corpse would be burnt together in large bonfire with all other 207 deceased soldiers who died in the Battle of Trost.

Royal Government arc[]

Two months later, underneath the Reiss Chapel, Eren tearfully recalls Nac as one of the many people that died because his father stole the Founding Titan from the royal family.
