Nagisa Shiowatari is a minor character in Urusei Yatsura. He is a young boy who was raised as a girl by his father and the fiance of Ryūnosuke Fujinami, his love interest.

He was voiced by Yayoi Mitsuki in the 1988 OVA and Ayumu Murase in the 2022 series.

Appearance[]

Nagisa is a boy with a femenine appearance, he has white skin, dark eyes and long brown hair tied with a bow, in his first appearance he is seen wearing a sleeveless beach dress. In the 1988 OVA his clothing was yellow while in the 2022 anime is pink. He is also seen wearing other female clothing towards the series.

Personality[]

Due to being raised as a girl, Nagisa is soft polite and sometimes sentimental. He has a deep care and respect for his father, being the main reason why he acts as the way he was raised despite being uncommon in a boy of the time. Personally, Nagisa has a lazy attitude and is very gluttonous. He is also a sumo wrestler, becoming the Yokuzuna of the Annual Beach Sumo Tournament and being notably stronger than Ryūnosuke.

Nagisa is very much in love with Ryūnosuke, being the reason why he wanted to get a kiss from her to rest in peace when he was a ghost. Although Ryūnosuke doesn't feel the same for him. Knowing that Ryūnosuke has no feelings for him, Nagisa decides to leave her house saddened, but Ryūnosuke takes pity on him and states that she will not let him go until he has defeated him in combat, which makes Nagisa very happy.

Why He Isn't Heroic or Villainous?[]

  • Although he is a nice person with no corrupting qualities, none of his actions are considered heroic since he has no participation in the conflicts of the series.
