The Next-Generation Racers (shortened to Next-Gens or Next-Gen Racers) are major characters of Pixar's 18th full-length animated feature film Cars 3. They come from Next-Gen, a vehicle manufacturer that mainly focuses on making high-tech race cars and also makes semi-trucks and forklifts.
Personalities[]
Like the veteran racers, the Next-Gens are cold, charismatic, nice, neutral, serious, jerks, prankers, optimists and pessimists.
Biography[]
Past[]
Ray Reverham was tasked by Axle P. Biggs with finding promising race cars to be trained at the The Biggs Industries Racing Complex. 8 racers were recruited, including Tim Treadless. Later, after hearing about a popular racing simulation game, Super Corsa 3, he bought the company that developed it and organized the biggest online video game tournament to recruit the winner as final, 9th trainee to the team. The car that won was Jackson Storm.
In a special racing center with the other next-generation racers, Storm's attitude was a huge problem. He would often bully other members of the training center and steal their allotted time on the racing simulators. He would frequently challenge the other racers on the simulators, and upon losing to one racer in particular, Storm raged, damaging equipment and setting off the fire alarm. Due to repeated bad behavior, Mr. Biggs decided to fire Jackson. Ray saw some kind of potential in Jackson, however, and decided to leave the training center with him.
Cars 3[]
When Jackson Storm is the front-runner in the next-generation racers, who have capabilities the veteran racers lack, most notably higher speed, giving veterans a hard time trying to keep up. Following Jackson's win at Copper Canyon Speedway, six veteran racers are fired by their sponsors with next-gens replacing them. More and more next-gens would begin appearing throughout the season while veterans either get fired or make their own decision to retire to clear the way. By the Los Angeles 500, the next-gens have replaced all but eleven of the veterans, though they, excluding Lightning McQueen, would have the same fate as the other veterans afterwards being the last stock car to be replaced during the Florida 500 in 2017. After winning the Florida 500, trainer Cruz Ramirez joined the next-gens as Dinoco's replacement racer for Cal Weathers, who had retired some time ago.
