Originally appearing in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Nightshade Paolumu is a Flying Wyvern and a subspecies of Paolumu.
Physiology[]
Nightshade Paolumu is a big Flying Wyvern that looks like a bat, just like the regular Paolumu. The velvety fur covering its body is mostly dark purple or black, in contrast to the white-and-pink coloring of its normal cousin. In keeping with the hue of its fur, its tail is equally dark. It has a creamy white face and two vividly colorful patches on its neck that resemble the patterns on a peacock's tail feathers. These spots are harder to see when it is deflated. There are subtle green undertones on the webbing of its wings.
Behavior and Abilities[]
In aerial battle, Nightshade Paolumu is much more aggressive and skilled than Paolumu. In contrast to Paolumu, which needs multiple tries to get enough air into its neck sac to lift off, Nightshade Paolumu can inflate itself with just one breath. By releasing its stored air, it may fly at fast speeds and in unpredictable patterns while in the air, frequently inflicting damage on injured hunters. It can fly without inflating, too.
Its most unique talent is the pale blue-green gas it releases from its mouth when it is inflated; this gas functions as a potent narcotic, putting exposed hunters to sleep. It can exhale a single, enormous cloud or create smaller ones that linger on the battlefield for a brief period of time. In order to draw in patches of its gas, it can inhale without inflating itself. It can then use the wind currents it stirs up with its tail to spread them out.
