Number 3 is a minor character of Elfen Lied. She is a Sipliit Test Subject and would later infect Kurama with her Vectors, who would have Mariko been born a Diclonius.
She is voiced by Mikako Takahashi in Japanese and Allison Sumrall in English.
Why Isn't She Heroic Nor Villainous?[]
- While she did kill some guards and researchers amounting to three, what prevents her from being a villain is... it is somewhat justified given the Diclonius Research Institution tortured her for her entire life. When she begged to stop, they kept on going, making it self-defense than sheer malice. Even then, she likely has moral agency issues, given she likely was influenced by the DNA Voice.
- While she does infect Kurama with her Vectors, it relies too much on the reader to decide if it was actual thanks or spiteful, given he treated her far better. It is also too indirect to make her responsible for Mariko being born a Diclonius.
- The nicest thing she did was thanking Kurama and would refuse to kill him.
- Given she was one of the Sipilits taken from birth and didn’t kill anyone before breaking free, this makes her a massive scapegoat, since her inhumane treatment and death makes her tragic. It is all played for sympathy.
