Pete "Claws" Ward is a minor character who appeared in the movie, Monsters, Inc.
He was voiced by the late Joe Ranft.
Biography[]
Monsters, Inc.[]
Claws is a terrifying creature that resembles a blue crocodile and has razor-sharp claws. George Sanderson and Lanky Schmidt are two of his closest buddies.
The Monsters Inc. advertisement with Mike's face disguised introduces Claws for the first time, stating that a child's scarer is matched to their fears and featuring Claws paired with a little boy.
Claws makes appearances in the sushi restaurant and on the Scare Floor in Monsters, Inc. The youngster he was trying to terrify was not terrified of him and even came close to touching him, so he screams and sobs as he flees through a door on the Scare Floor. After that, he starts crying, but his helper consoles him and calls for a door shredder, making that door the 58th that has been lost this week.
He breaks down in tears as he watches Mike's company perform "Put That Thing Back Where It Came From Or So Help Me," and his assistant slaps him, telling him to "keep it together, man!" (much like he did earlier in the film when Claws was crying because the kid got close to him).
Monsters University[]
In Monsters University, Claws doesn't make a physical appearance, although during the credits, his image may be seen on a Scare Card. In Monsters University, it is also disclosed that he attended Fear Tech and was employed by Fear Co.
Personality[]
Claws works with a variety of different coworkers at Monsters, Incorporated, and although being frequently visible in the background, he seems to act like every other employee of the organization. Despite this, he does occasionally become upset in specific circumstances, like when a human youngster almost hurt him and he failed his frightening lesson.
