Scientists or Ecologists are major characters in the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Scientists are government-funded researchers operating into the Zone. Much like the Loners or Bandits, Ecologists as a fraction exist only by name, as they are just different groups operating in different places.

History[]

Scientists were send by the Ukrainian government to research and explore the Zone for scientific and medical purposes. The Scientists are the most harmless of all the fractions in the Zone using weapon only in self-defense. They usually hire people to work for them, finding artifacts, limps of mutants or just guarding the territory.

In some point in 2011 they hired a stalker, Strelok to test the psi-protection, but the latter escaped and used it in his own goal, enter the central of the Zone. His actions caused Emission which resulted in the deaths of a Ecologists' team in the swamps that were delivered by a Mercenary, Shram. Shram, survived in no other way but pure luck. During the Shram's absence, the Scientists hired Loners to stabilize the psy-emission on the factory nearby. However all the Loners died only succeeding in bringing back the documents. Shram, in search for Strelok, finds his way to the Yantar, where the Scientists are located. Out of mutual need, he helps them to stabilize the psy-emisstion before heading to the Red Forest

In 2012, they hired Prizrak, an experienced stalker to escort Vasiliev to the X-16 laboratory to research. However, the mission resulted in the death of both of them, due to Vasiliev's cowardice. Eventually, Mechenyj on Barkeep's request finished what Prizrak and Vasiliev started.

After the way to the center was opened, two professors, Hermann and Ozersky started to research the origins of the Zone, and the flora and the fauna. Their research may succeeded or not, depending on the player's actions
