Seething Bazelgeuse are Flying Wyverns introduced in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. They are a variant of Bazelgeuse that possess enhanced fire-related abilities, allowing them to cause even more chaos and destruction. Thus, they are often placed on high alert by the Hunters Guild and will be hunted if they wander too close to civilisation.
Physiology[]
In its natural state, Seething Bazelgeuse's body is more metallic blue in hue. In its usual condition, it resembles the heated state of bazelgeuse. It has the ability to power up even further, causing its head and tail to blaze white hot before turning a fiery purple-white.
Behavior and Abilities[]
The exploding scales of Seething Bazelgeuse have grown to a disastrous extent. It goes into the Seething State/Crimson Lotus State when angry. It drops explosive scales in its initial powered-up stage as usual, but it can also throw these scales at a great distance with further assaults. The scales glow purple-hot in its second powered-up state before bursting inside a massive blast radius. Walls and other surfaces will be adhered to by these scales. When all of its scales are glowing purple, Seething Bazelgeuse will perform its most potent maneuver, which is to soar through the air while dispersing its scales widely before exploding violently back down. It returns to its normal state when this attack uses up all of its explosive scales. Seething Bazelgeuse can throw scales with a simple head or tail movement, eliminating the requirement for its typical bombing runs. They fly more wildly, but they also don't need to be detonated with their bodies because they are constantly heated up.
Furthermore, Seething Bazelgeuse is incredibly strong and durable, being capable of taking on monsters that can typically hold their own against Elder Dragons such as Furious Rajang. During its turf war with the latter, it's shown to be rather strategic in its scale usage, taking advantage of the Rajang's fixation on grabbing its tail to drop some of its scales, staggering its opponent before performing a divebomb. As such, thanks to its physical might, aggressive behaviour and potent explosive power, Seething Bazelgeuse has been dubbed "Great Calamity" by the Hunters Guild, with its appearance anywhere near civilisation being a cause for alarm.
Habitat[]
Interestingly, Seething Bazelgeuse of the New World lack the migratory behaviour of their regular counterparts, preferring to roost in the Elder's Recess instead of travelling about elsewhere. The Old World's population of Seething Bazelgeuse are more nomadic however, being found in all sorts of environments from the Shrine Ruins to the Sandy Plains. The reason for this is unknown, though it's possible that a lack of constantly available carrion is to blame, seeing as Seething Bazelgeuse may settle in the Recess solely because of its proximity to the Rotten Vale.
