The Serverblight's victims, also known as the Blighted, are the secondary antagonists of the YouTube SFM horror series Serverblight by 2IdiotGermans.

They are a collection of Team Fortress 2 players who were assimilated by the Serverblight, a paranormal entity that stalks and preys on empty servers in search of more prey.

Why aren't they heroic or villainous?

• The victims were simply trying to play Team Fortress 2 when assimilated, and most do not get to show any personality, already appearing assimilated in the videos. They did not have any apparent heroic or villainous goals prior to their assimilation, and once part of the Serverblight, they were no longer in control of their bodies.

Overview

Serverblight victims were players whose minds were dragged into the game by the Serverblight's ambient abilities, which rendered them unable to leave and began fusing them with their character. As part of the Serverblight, the victims are often horrifically distorted, especially in their arms and fingers. The victims' player models were added to the physical gestalt of the Serverblight, while their real-world minds were also sucked into the game and fused with the entity's hivemind, where it tortured them and left their real bodies seemingly dead or comatose. While unclear if it has a host, it appeared that Medic was its base component, as it initially always used Medic's voice when first speaking. Said Medic was presumably TheRealKid, whose name was listed first when the entity later disconnected.

Within the Serverblight, assimilated players are still lucid and able to feel pain, but unable to control themselves as the Serverblight dictates their every move. The Serverblight uses burning sensations to force the players to scream for help whenever it closes in on a new target, and revels in the pain and resistance from the victims. This can drive players mad from the agony, but certain players are allowed a degree of autonomy, left only partially assimilated so they can be used as lures, as seen with GUILLIESUIT and JonyDany12. However, while these half-assimilated players are capable of some independent movement, they always have at least one limb distorted and stretched out to connect to the central mass of the Serverblight.

Assimilation is through physical contact by the Serverblight. The process of being assimilated is described as being like falling asleep and waking up in the game with some memory loss and numbness, and the Serverblight's influence is likened to a hand gripping the back of their neck. However, another player experienced a more aggressive assimilation that felt like hands tearing open his mouth, and yet another player underwent a gradual assimilation, able to act seemingly mostly independently until full control was taken. Assimilated players are able to be split off from the main mass and are capable of shapeshifting to appear as regular players, allowing the Serverblight to use them for lures such as setting up a fake game. However, assimilated players cannot speak or use the text chat, only capable of uttering their player characters' voicelines, but the Serverblight can use their previously-sent voice and chat messages.

Serverblight victims are still vulnerable to gameplay mechanics, still registered as players by the game. As such, they can be hurt and killed by in-game weapons from players on the opposing team as the victims, and are also susceptible to being votekicked or autobalanced. However, this does not free them from the Serverblight's control. Additionally, it is unclear if Serverblight victims can respawn, as an assimilated Demoman simply had his pieces dragged away after being blown apart. Most importantly, the Serverblight is incapable of following targets to instant death zones, which would presumably permanently kill it, and is the only confirmed way to escape its servers. It is unknown what would happen if a round is won the regular way, such as capturing the last point or the intel.

Trivia

• 2IdiotGermans released a non-canon short titled "The Good Ending" as an alternate ending of Migration, where JonyDany12 successfully escaped the Serverblight without being touched. As such, the Serverblight was unable to assimilate the knowledge of disconnecting from JonyDany12, resulting in it being stranded in Thunder Mountain, unable to assimilate the rest of its victims.
