Shannon is a minor antagonist in Despicable Me 2. She is a woman who goes on a blind date with Gru at the behest of Jillian.
She was voiced by Kristen Schaal.
Why isn't she heroic or villainous?[]
- The worst things she did were her abrasive attitude, her extremely rude behavior toward Gru and threatening to remove his wig and expose him in public which makes her a jerk, not a villain.
Biography[]
The details Shannon's early life are unclear, but is shown that she exercises frequently and became acquainted with Jillian at some point. Shannon displayed an abrasive attitude towards Jillian, who considered her a friend.
Shannon is seen with Jillian at Gru's front door after Jillian brought here there, standing there reluctantly while Jillian tries to convince Gru to agree to the blind date. Shannon and Gru go to an Italian restaurant, where she proceeds to belittle Gru's physique before showcasing her own fitness by performing press-ups and ab crunches on the restaurant floor, which attracts the attention of the whole restaurant much to Gru's dismay. Lucy notices Shannon's workout while collecting her take-out and listens in on their conversation, overhearing Shannon realizing that Gru was wearing a wig. Shannon threatens to remove Gru's wig and expose him in front of everybody, but Lucy intervenes at the last second and shoots Shannon's rear with a tranquilizer dart, knocking her out and causing her to fall into her plate of spaghetti. One of the waiters checks on Shannon, concerned she wasn't enjoying the food, but Lucy reassures him that Shannon just had too much to drink, before suggesting to Gru that they take her home.
Gru and Lucy carry Shannon out of the restaurant. They get her head stuck in the door and fling her into a lamp post after pulling her out. A nearby policeman notices them pick her up, but Gru and Lucy avert his suspicions by shaking Shannon's arms to make her wave, to which the policeman replies with a tip of his hat. The pair then drive Shannon home with her unconscious body tied to the top of Lucy's Car. When they arrive, Lucy brakes so sharply that Shannon slams into the back of the car in front. Gru and Lucy then lay Shannon by her front door, with her face slumped in a plant pot.
Shannon isn't seen again until the end of the movie, where she dances with Fred until she shuns him for another man during Lucy and Gru's wedding.
Personality[]
Shannon is a rude, judgmental, conceited, and ignorant person who often displays snobby and impudent behavior, typically criticizing and rolling her eyes at other people, even those who consider her a friend such as Jillian. She does not like 'phonies', or people who attempt to deceive her. She also prides herself on her physical fitness and likes to show this off by working out in public, even in inappropriate places like restaurants.
