The Smiling Critters are the titular main protagonists of the Poppy Playtime in-universe cartoon miniseries of the same name.
They are a group of smiling anthropomorphic animals that are made to promote the release of the Smiling Critters toyline.
Biography[]
Not much is known about the cartoon versions of the Smiling Critters, despite being made to promote their titular toyline. A VHS tape plays a segment of the cartoon, opening with the theme of the cartoon. The episode is set at DogDay's house. The critters are having a sleepover, but couldn't sleep due to a storm keeping them awake. Bobby BearHug remarks about the storm, while CraftyCorn cowers in fear when lightning strikes. DogDay tries to lighten the mood, mentioning how the wind will die down eventually.
Suddenly, the door to the house opens, revealing CatNap. The other critters smile at him. Several of the critters, Bubba Bubbaphant, PickyPiggy, KickinChicken, and Hoppy Hopscotch begs CatNap to help them sleep. The scene cuts to a realistic close up of CatNap exhaling the Poppy Gas. The other critters start laughing uncontrollably before the video distorts and cuts to CatNap sitting on the couch with the other critters unresponsive. It's unknown whether the other critters were killed or unconscious from the gas.

- The cartoon versions of the Smiling Critters were first teased in Phase 2 of Project: Playtime, where some of them can be seen on a poster within the Destroy-a-Toy area.
